If you use a UIWebView to pull content from the web, your app has to be rated 17+ now. Does anybody know if you use a UIWebView, but only for local content, are you still forced to rate 17+?

"The definition of “unfiltered internet access” seems very broad and could include nearly every app with a user-controllable UIWebView"http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/07/27/apple_again_allows_promo_codes_for_mature_rated_apps.html
"Apple has also decided to rate all apps that come with an embedded Web browser for ages 17 and up"Not directly from Apple of course - but Ive been reading 2nd hand posts about the new rating system. I imagine some devs were sneaking content through the raters by downloading different content only after the app was approved.

I use a UIWebView in Occurro! to display high scores. It gets the data from the high score server & doesn't allow the user to enter a web address. I think this fits in the category of "filtered," so Apple doesn't require the 17+ rating.
Occurro! is 9+ for mild animated violence (shooting/killing bad guys).
If you display local content in a UIWebView, there shouldn't be any age restriction based on that UIWebView being part of your app. As soon as you allow the user to enter a web address, then they'll apparently slap you with 17+.

Stupid question from someone who hasnt released anything yet: Who is rating the app ???

rating mystics who work (and live) in the sub-cellar of 1 Infinite Loop.

Technically it's both you and the humanoid creatures mentioned by Codemattic. You click on radio buttons in iTunes Connect to tell if your app is violent, is realistic, mentions drug or alcohol, has mature/horror theme, etc. Based on your choices, a rating is automatically applied.
