Hello!

I have developed ParticleView application. It helps me create particles effects, I can change Particles parameters like duration, color, gravity, etc. and run to see the effect in live. I don't have to change x or y by 1 and compile the application to see effect in live.

- The ParticleView application bases on Cocos2d v0.8rc
- Up to 5 Particles system for complex effects
- 15 preloaded particle images
- Save and Load buttons to make your work more effective
- Full source code

I tried running the project but I can't get the particles to display. Could someone give me a 2 minute guide on how to use this?

At first it does not show anything, you must touch one of the five possible systems in the main menu and activate them inside the displayed menu.

I tried running it then clicked on partial system 1, click the "enabled" checkbox, click back then run, and I get a black screen with the framerate and a "run" and "stop" button. Sorry maybe I am missing something right in front of my face.

I figured it out. I feel really stupid. Anyone wondering you need to set the "duration" to a positive number.

mhhh not really, i have mine with duration:-1 and it displays correctly, infinitely...

Hey, this is great - I can finally replace Drop7 with something productive when not near my computer. That said, I have some ideas for improvement, and once it's added to the trunk I might start doing some of these myself if no one minds:

- The whole load/save/start system is kind of broken
- It seems as if you have to hit load after you make changes
- Ability to load/save files to an NSCoding format that can be loaded directly from games
- Add NSCoding to particle system, or create a loader class of some sort?
- Color Picker for color values
- There's a great open source one we can use
- Ability to edit values without opening keyboard
- Subclass the edit fields, touch and move up/down to change value, tap to open keyboard
- Ability to create world space particle systems
- Ability to move emitter center with touches
- Double tap to restart (fire) the emitter
- Split screen view mode, so you can edit while viewing the particle systems

Great work trump-card. I agree with all of slipster216's improvements, particularly being able to save and load the settings from a file. This should be fairly trivial using NSCoding.

The other thing that appears to be missing is setting the blending mode. It would also be great if we could have more control over the blending than just additive or normal, modes like GL_SRC_ALPHA_SATURATE could be interesting.

Hey.... if anyone ever wants to post files to share with people online, all you've got to do is get yourself a free DropBox account. Seriously... It lets you store 2GB of files online for free, and sync those files across multiple computers if you like... You don't have to install a local client to upload files to their site... You can do it completely through their web based interface, and the files stay there forever too..

To share files, you put them in the "Public" folder, then right click (or click on the drop down arrow) and get a "public url" for the file. Very simple and very useful... I use it to automatically share files with the graphics guy I do work with, and it's very useful. We both have the client installed on our machines, and if I change a file, it behind the scenes syncs it over to his computer, almost instantly.

When I tried to compile and build this against 0.8 release I got the following:

CompileXIB /Nalin/Dev/ParticleView/ParticlesViewController.xib
Command /Developer/usr/bin/ibtool failed with exit code 5

Did anyone else get this and/or know how to fix?

@Nalin, what's the framework you're compiling against? 3.0? With a quick google search I found that there were some issues in 2.2. As soon as I can I'll try to compile it and give you some feedback.

Thanks Joao - I'm using 2.2.1

I did a quick google search and it came up with the fact that some of the text fields in the XIB file might be set to hidden, though I could not find this yet.

the xib files that come with ParticleView? I did not change them in any way but I can do that...
