   @Dragyn you are correct I use it for the default name until it is change for the high scores. I was thinking same thing might be apostrophe but I changed the name on my device at Game Over scene to include apostrophe in it and it worked fine. I think it had to do with the way I was setting the label string but don't know for sure since it never occurred on any of my devices.

   Update 1.1 will release as soon as iOS 4.1 becomes public. It uses Game Center that is why it hasn't released yet. Please update and let me know if that fixes this problem if not I will not use the device name and just use the string "Me" as default.

   Still crashes for me. Do you really want to restrict yourself to 4.1?

   I know a lot of people with 3GS and lower that have not even upgraded to 4.0 because of how slow it makes their device.

   While our game doesn't require Game Center, we plan on releasing for 3.1.2 and up. Just seems like you'll cut out a lot of your market by going 4.1+.

   it's not restricted to 4.1. It's 3.1 or higher. GameKit is weak linked so it will still run on older OS.

   As far as crashing I submitted another update not to read the device id but then I got thinking if the device id is already saved as your default name, then won't matter if I read the device name or not the game still might crash so the best bet is to try and delete the app restart your device and install it again directly from the app store because if you just resync from iTunes you will be syncing the preferences as well. Sorry for the problem and actually I wish cocos2d would not NSAssert( c < kCCBMFontMaxChars, @"BitmapFontAtlas: character outside bounds"); and make app crash instead it would be better to just ignore the character. Maybe somebody who know @riq can make that suggestion.

   Now live on app store update 1.1.1. This should fix problems with crashing when hitting play. I did 2 things. I no longer read device name and just in case the device name got saved into default name I made a method the delete any unreadable char. For some reason on some device when reading the string device name it returns char outside the bitmap font label bounds which is weird because the char outside that bounds is basically unreadable character. Sorry for the people who had problems.

   There haven't been any reviews left if I can encourage people who have left positive feedback on this forum to also do so on App Store would be appreciated.

   By the way, I noticed that the LITE version is the same price as the full version. Was that intentional?

   @Dragyn I think Apple must because I have seen a delay up to a day before it posts but I think I seen it now and thanks for your review.

   I have one person already confirm the fix does work and the app does not crash on some device anymore when selecting PLAY. @Verisutha and @finder39 and any body else who has had the problem, can you also confirm the app is now working properly with 1.1.1 update.

    Well, the update fixed the crash when pressing play, but the game crashes every time I die now. If I hit an enemy and die I get a black screen and have to terminate the program. If I fall off a platform I get the "Game Over" screen but none of the options work and the stats all say 0.

    Sorry @Nex that is a new one to me. If you have crash logs please send them to me it should say something like ChalkboardJumper_2010-09-14-123442_My-iPod.crash

    Works great now. My daughter really enjoys the game. Although she loves that style her favs are Doodle Jump and Mega Jump.

    @Verisutha thanks and sorry that it didn't work sooner. As you and all developers know even when you do extensive testing things still seem to happen when the public starts using it. Still can't understand why the device string is returning unreadable characters.

    I just checked and no crash logs are recorded for it--because the game itself does not "crash" it just hangs after dying. It's actually the same problem that I and a few others reported based on the original release. The subsequent update caused the game to actually crash when hitting 'Play', and now I'm back to it just hanging after dying (and no stats are ever updated).
