This is our first cocos2d game Chalkboard Jumper™ and would like to give the community some promos codes. Also there is hidden easter egg for extra life and will share the secret with you. Just tap Chalky™ 3 times on menu screen then you will here a sound indicating extra life. If you except OpenFeint you will also unlock an achievement. This game also has retina images for you iPhone 4 owners.

Chalkboard Jumper™ you will control Chalky™ to fight your way to the top by avoiding or shooting enemies and the higher you jump you will encounter more challenging enemies. All this while you test your agility by jumping on moving and disappearing platforms. While most jumping games give you only one life in Chalkboard Jumper™ there is an easter egg that will unlock an extra life. Once you start playing you won't be able to stop.

Future updates will include more easter eggs and more challenging enemies.

I really love the app. It's even better than doodle jump in my opinion. This app is more basic and simple, while doodle jump is more complex.

Thanks for the great comment. Just to give people more insight this app is not just about jumping higher to get points but you get points for shooting enemies also. And the more points you get the different types of enemies and more enemies you will see and not all enemies are with the same points. The longer you last the more enemies will be worth. My next update will include boss enemies which you will have to shoot 2 or more times to kill.

We tried to make this a combination shooter jumping game while keeping it simple, fun and challenging.

Too bad there aren't any codes left. I would of liked to try this.

This looks really closely like doodle jump which isn't a bad thing. The screenshots in the AppStore look good.

Hey thanks for the promo codes. Good job its a fun game. I'm not sure if anyone else is having this problem but when I die nothing happens. My character disappears but the baddies keep moving around and the moving platforms keep moving, but no me. Whats worse is that after I die I can't even pause the game, which means in order to leave that screen I have to quit the game?!? Like I said hopefully not everyone is having this problem and I just checked and it still shows that I haven't played any games in the score section(probably because I have to quit manually and restart the game). Lemme know if I'm just being stupid and missing something obvious. I will keep testing, lemme know if there is anything I can do.

PS I'm on a second gen IPod touch with OS 4.2 or whatever the most recent update is.

Hi, I really like the graphics and simplicity of this game. But, I took one of the promo codes and have the same problem as Juntaou--as soon as I die there is no way to restart short of closing the game.

Can you tell me what gen of iPod you have. It was tested with 3GS on iOS 4.0.1 and 3G with 3.1.2 with no problems. Sorry for the inconvenience. We will try and track it down. Any more info would help though.

The weirdest thing just happened. I downloaded it from app store on a iPhone 3G 3.1.2 and the first time it wouldn't even launch it just kept crashing. So I deleted it then downloaded it again and now it launches and works perfectly. Please delete app then install again and see if that helps. If not respond back telling me more like if you have the extra life or with no extra life and hit first enemy you see and if the game still stays and no end of game shows. Also if you fall do you see the end of game scene?

Also just for curiosity since you do have Touch 3G why haven't you updated to 4.0?

Please any more people with this problem try the above solution that I did first the if still happens please post exact detail of this occurrence like score you had if you killed any enemies yet, etc...

Just tried it on iPod Touch 2G (8GB) with iOS 4.0 and on first launch it started loading then it started to show OpenFeint approval screen then just stopped. I rebooted device now it works properly and played game with no anomolies. It appears there is something wrong when you first download it on older devices but can't seem to replicate Nex and Juntaou problems.

Anybody else found similar thing with other apps that on first download from app store they don't work but after deleting and installing again works fine?

I have a 3rd gene iPod touch iOS 4.0.2 and haven't had any problems at all. I immediately enabled the secret life. (a big help)

Does anybody have any other feedback if it's to hard, too easy, or just right? Reminder we will be adding more enemies and boss characters with more hidden extras. Right now the there are certain score thresholds which you will begin to see new enemies worth more points.

I'm not having any problems. I have an iPod Touch on 4.0. Also, the game starts off a little slow. It's pretty easy also. I still just like it as a time-killer.

I tried rebooting and it did nothing for me, also I do not see the end of life scene when you fall to the bottom. It doesn't matter how I die I get the same results. I will try reinstalling.

Juntaou please let me know if that helps it seems to be sporadic at best and not tied to anything which I can find wrong with program itself but I will keep looking.

Thanks for feedback next version will include more enemies that might make the beginning have more action. But trust me it gets more challenging quick. Myself once above 25,000 there are less normal platforms and more of the disappearing and moving (side-to-side/up-down) platforms plus there is more enemies closer together and once around 50,000 I myself can't much past.

Is anybody still having issues with this game. Apparently there have been reports of it crashing at certain points and cannot replicate problem and there are no crash reports on Apple to examine. If you are having problems please PM (private message) us your crash reports from xcode organizer so that we can find the issue. Loaded just fine (signing in to OF, etc) and played through a few times. Seems solid, no crashing. I'm using an iPod Touch 32GB 3rd Gen, running iOS 4.0.2.

I know you're more concerned with stability now, but I think the "death" animation should be slower. Like you hit something, and an eraser slowly erases your character, one swipe at a time (maybe smearing, like chalk usually does). The "death poof" seems way too quick, and you're left staring at the game over screen before you quite realize WHY you died. Also, keeping the game screen on allows players who like to think "what if" (okay, like me) to see where the better move would have been. Some animation on what you hit would be nice, too. Like if you die, the snake/bug/etc dies, too.

That being said, except for my own initial stupidity ("Oooh! let's pick up the bug!" Death-poof.), this is a really fun game. I've tried quite a few of the jumpers like this, and what I liked is that it does start slowly, and doesn't get crazy/frantic a few seconds later like some of them do. The starting pace allows you to get in the groove of it before you have to tackle a lot of enemies to jump around. I'll definitely be playing this one again and again.

@Dragyn thanks for the feedback and will try to incorporate your suggestions in future releases. I tested this game with iPhone 3GS 4.1, iPhone 3G 3.1.2, and a iPod Touch 2nd GEN 4.0 all run fine so I am stumped why I am getting reports of game crashing either at initial startup or when the person selects Play from menu and it crashes. Hopefully others might try this game and provide some feedback if the app crashes.

Update: I uninstalled the original version I had, upgraded to the latest version and reinstalled. Now, the game exits immediately when I hit "Play", before I can even play one round. The Scores section works as does OpenFeint. I'm still on 3.1.3 mainly so that I can test my apps on the older OS.

@Nex I think I may have found the problem. Someone sent me a crash report and it's crashing in BitmapFont label atlas with NSAssert( c < kCCBMFontMaxChars, @"BitmapFontAtlas: character outside bounds");

It doesn't crash on any of my devices and that includes iPhone 3G with 3.1.2. The person who sent me logs I told them to completely uninstall and reinstall it again and now it works fine. It strange that it only occurs sometimes. It has to do with getting the name from device name and the BP font sometimes doesn't work so I tried something different and submitted update to App Store. Hopefully within week it should be posted. Please try the update when it comes out and tell me if that worked.

Odin - I am having the exact same problem as Nex. Although I am on a 4G, using 4.01 and it crashes right after I hit play as well.

I could send you a crash log if you would like one.

I did completely delete the game and re-downloaded, just in case. It didn't work, still crashes right after i hit play.

The reason it's crashing after hitting play is I now init game over scene for faster game play but the problem seems to be happening while init this layer and it's because it reads the device name if you haven't played before. Can @Verisutha or @finder39 tell me what you device name is? example (My iPod) this is found under settings - about

Why would it need the device name? Seems like a rather odd function for the game...

He uses the device name as the default for the player's name in the high score table the first time you play.

I'm going to guess it is the length of the string (or the use of an apostrophe or other symbol characters) that is causing the odd behavior. (For the record, my device name is 15 chars long, with only alpha and spaces).
