Hey guys -- I'm pleased to announce my first cocos2d game - rhRunner!

Rhodium -- the rarest of all precious metals.

rhRunner is an exciting platform game that pits you, a daring treasure hunter, against a cadre of villians that have stolen the Rhodium supply of the world. Your job is to traverse each level and retrieve the Rhodium. You will use a series of ladders and ropes to avoid the villians. You also have the ability to burn holes in order to temporarily trap the villians.

Game play is fun and hectic! 150 levels provide a neverending challenge to your problem solving skills. All 150 levels are available for play. You'll need quick reflexes to avoid the villians and retrieve the stolen Rhodium.

Two different control modes are available: Directional Pad (DPAD) and Swipe. You can choose the fire buttons to be on the left or right side of the screen.

This looks awesome - a total Lode Runner knock-off (down to using some of the same maps?), but that was one of my favorite games on Spectrum.

I'll check it out in jiffy and leave an iTunes review soon.

Nicely done. A couple of suggestions:

* I found the controls difficult to use. I'd have preferred the D-controller to stop the guy from running when I lifted my finger. As it was, I kept accidentally overrunning ladders and platforms.

* The tile mapping has some issues, showing gaps between tiles. Check out this thread:

Can I have multiple accounts on 1 PC? Won't that kind of mess it up? When I sync my iPod to a new account it's gonna copy all the apps and remove my music.....

What about building your game for a specific UDID? That work's. :/ But anyway, I'll survive without an awesome game. ;)

I've had no trouble with it at all. All the downloads from any account get synced to my device.

Hey @Duckwit.... You can do that... all you have to do is choose "None" as your payment option. The catch is that you need to supply an address though.... But it's not billing information, just some US address... So fill in some random US address (google "random us address") or go here http://www.realusaaddress.com/

and then fill some variant on that address and you'll be good.... Here's a post that links to a walkthrough as well!

@Duckwit.... Hmmm.... Weird.... I'm using iTunes 9.2.1, the latest release of iTunes.... and it shows a none option for sure... I actually went through the signup process again about an hour ago and it worked totally fine...

So maybe you need to update iTunes? What's your version?

The game looks really impressing unfortunately I can't use promocodes to and I'm to lazy to make a new. :p

I have the latest version. 9.2.1 :/

I click Sign In create new account , enter my info and then when I get to the payment it doesn't have a None option. :/
AHHHHHH. I want a US account.

Gonna see if I can fix it....

IMPORTANT => First you have try to download a free app/game.

When it ask to sign in, you click on "Create a new account".

That´s it.

ahh. I figured it out....

I put in a fake credit card number and once it said 'Invalid Card' the None button appeared.... are there any promos left?
Just waiting for my dad to say I can use a fake address. :)

I just submitted an update (v1.1) that has the graphics artifacts fixed. I accidentally lost a change when I updated to the latest cocos2d version. FYI, I fixed this by changing RENDER_IN_SUBPIXEL to 0 in ccConfig.h. For my sprites, that was the magic -- none of the other solutions worked.

@pfg2009 - I'll work on tweaking the DPAD controller. Quite frankly, I hate that myself so I always use the swipe method

@M.A.S - I've thought about adding either Openfeint or may the Apple GameCenter, but, wanted to see if there was a desire for that before adding it.

@tesseract very cool! I grew up playing Lode Runner on an Apple IIe. My complaint is also that the controls are hard. I would also expect that when you lift your finger off of the D-PAD you would expect the player to stop running. It makes the game very hard since he keeps running.

Lode Runner was one of my favorites games back in the 80's :)

I agree with @pfg2009. I found the controls somewhat difficult to use. I would stop the Hero if that D-Pad is not pressed, and I would also make the D-Pad a little big larger.

Thanks for the feedback. I couldn't begin to count the hours I spent playing Lode Runner back in the 80's.

at least on the Apple ][ series - it would keep going until you pressed something else (I dont think the Apple ][ keyboard could detect key up).

But I find the controls really difficult and I feel it takes away from the game. I find it almost impossible to hit up at the right time to climb a ladder for instance. Is it me - do I just need more practice, or is the code unnecessarily unforgiving? Maybe I need to try the swipe controls more, bc I have trouble with the d-pad.

Hey guys -- the update to fix the graphics artifacts just went live. I have another release pending that contains tweaks to the DPAD. I made the control larger, and changed it so that the hero stops when you release it.

@tesseract I have an iPod Touch 3rd Gen 8 GB with 4.0 installed and when I launch the app it shows the 'rhRunner' splash screen and then crashes. Has anyone else had this problem?

@Duckwit -- I found the problem and just submitted a new release to the App Store. Look for version 1.2 -- it should be released in 7 days (that's how long it seems to be taking them to review apps at the moment).
