   Hello,
   I have a simple and small sound effect in a caf file that is played every time the user touches the screen, but the first time the user touches the sound takes some time to play and the app doesn't react until the sound is played. Should I preload the sound effect? Should I change file type? Suggestions?

   Is the delay there is the sound is removed?

   If you are sure its the sound that's causing the delay then preloading the sound is pretty simple, have a look at the cocosDenshion sample code in the tests directory.

   I'm sorry my english might not be good enough, but I did not understood your question.

   I'll look at it. Is it worth to preload every tiny sound if this happens?

   Oops my bad, there was a typo :")

   If the delay is caused by the sound and not by something else initializing then its worth preloading. I tend to preload sound effects where possible (within memory constraints), its less work for the processor at runtime.

   @Reonarudo I think you just need to do this in your init method

   [[SimpleAudioEngine sharedEngine] preloadEffect:@"SoundEffect.caf"];

   then can play later in the class any time with no delay.

   One more thing. Is there a best file type? I've seen lots of people using .caf and some .wav is there a best option?

   I used AIFF 22.050kHz 8 bit Mono for the majority of the Super Turbo Action Pig sounds.

   edit: Just checked and it appears I used the same format for the 2 audio loops that play throughout the game and menus. The main game audio loop has a file size of 924KB while the menu loop was 264KB.

   There is a bit of popping on some of the sounds but that's down to me not the cocosDenshion.

   .caf is just a container format, although most people use it to encode IMA4. I can recommend IMA4, it is very lightweight to decode and it has a good sound quality, while having a compression of 4:1. I wouldn't use .wav, it's uncompressed, so it takes up a lot of space.

   Like abitofcode suggested make your audio files as small as possible. For my game I used 16 kHz 8-bit mono sound effects, music was 16 bit 22.050 kHz mono.
