Let me be one of the first to say that zwoptex has been invaluable to me in the developement process, and I'm more than happy to be able to make it a first day purchase.
Thanks for all the hard work, and here's hoping it keeps on getting better and better.
edit: Paypal :( Ugh.
Hey christopher is paypal acting up?
You should be able to pay without signing up. It's on the left hand side during the checkout and the sign in to account is on the right.
-Robert
Nah I just hate paypal, mostly on moral grounds as I've seen them screw over a few good developers simply because they could, or on fictitious grounds by people that just didn't feel like paying and decided to lodge a complaint instead. They will freeze any account on the slightest grounds, and gladly hold your money where you can't access it. They are a dirty business, and I feel uncomfortable using them or seeing a developer I respect use them for their revenue stream.
Here's hoping you won't get burned, or that you find a better solution.
edit: Anyhow, app purchased. Of course paypal harassed me saying I should let them set up a direct link to my bank account(NO) "Or you may not get your purchased goods because of bla bla bla for several days bla bla". More paypal chicanery :(
Ah yea sounds bad :(. I'd like to use something else to be honest but I couldn't find much that had very little up-front cost.. I do plan on doing my own https & checkout system eventually.

I have to ask 2 questions:
1) What about complex layout algorithms ? Are they supported ?
2) I just checked in latests cocos2d version and there is no support for any kind of rotation property when importing a plist generated by Zwoptex ?
Anyway, Zwoptex (and earlier versions of it) has been absolutely indispensable for us. We're quite surprised you changed it to a paid app now, but I guess it's understandable. Wish the price was a bit lower though
1) There are three completely new algorithms that make the flash version's "Complex Algorithm" rather obsolete actually. The tree algorithm most closely resembles it
2) I've submitted the patch information to Riq but he feels it's best to wait until the current release candidate becomes the release version. Until then you can download the patch ( http://www.zwoptexapp.com/extras.php ) and integrate it manually. More so you do not have to use rotation as it is completely optional to maintain compatibility with older cocos2d projects.
I think I need to note how to integrate the .plist into cocos2d since the metadata has been updated for the new format ( though it is very backwards compatible ).

Just purchased!
I have a slight problem though I have re-loaded my .zss files into 1.0 and published them, but I don't see the sprites in my game anymore. Do I have to change anything in my code? I am using the latest .99.4 RC 3 build
Thanks...
Hey graphG nothing in your code will have to change. You'll need to apply a patch ( http://www.zwoptexapp.com/downloads/cocos2d-rotation-patch.zip ). This will be patched into cocos2d releases as soon as Riq can get around to it.
It patches in rotational support as well as the new format "2" which is probably throwing an exception in your game code.
-Robert
awesome, thanks dude, and great software by the way!
Quick blog post about integration until I can elaborate tomorrow:

Thanks Robert!
As soon as I finish fixing and testing the new EAGLView/Hi-res feature, I'll merge your changes!
isn't $24.95 bit too much for simple app?
@gamebit - Personally, Zwoptex has saved me hours upon hours of work when it comes to spritesheets and the animations I build with them. I'm not sure what your time is worth, but for me, that sounds like a pretty good deal. On the blog though you'll notice that Robert says the Flash version is still available and will most likely remain so. If you don't feel like supporting the people that make these tools, you can always use that...
Hmmm If you don't want to pay use the flash version or stay with the 0.4b version.

+1
I guess it depends on if you're doing this purely for fun, but if not then the time saved easily covers the $24 price.
Zwoptex is a fantastic tool and well worth the $24.95 in my opinion! It has saved us so much time.
Thanks for the great product Robert. I'll be buying it shortly. :)
Seriously considering buying, Need to use my trial first tho.
I'll be purchasing a copy very shortly, $24.95 is very reasonable if it saves hours of my life pouring over spritemaps and frees me up to build more games. I could spend more than that in one phone call trying to explain the layout requirements to the graphic artist.
The apps that appear simple usually do so because the complexity is hidden away, its only when an interaction designer does a bad job that anyone notices.
awesome tool. However for some reason I was under the impression it would always be free :-(
Excellent work Robert, will purchase real soon.
Edit: I'm seeing a lot of complaints about the price. Robert, spends a lot of time making this for the community. I think his time is valuable too.
Copy purchased, magic! :D
I agree that it's great app, and its pure time saver. And when i saw that it has license i was thinking to buy it also, but come on, 24$? In country where i live its like whole days salary in normal job :)
@GameBit - In my country (Canada), $24 isn't a lot of money. As in, two people can't go out for lunch for less than that (well, at least a lunch that isn't room-temperature hamburgers :P )...
And I'm guessing the same is true for the country the developer lives in. I'm sure he's priced it in a way to keep it affordable, but still worthwhile for him. If it wasn't worthwhile for him, what point would there be in developing it in the first place?
And again, there's a free flash version...
Congratulations Robert!
For me, Zwoptex as invaluable tool that I use all the time. Really can't understand complains about the price. You can always use free flash version, but with so many improvements in standalone app you can't be serious that $25 is too much?
Best
GameBit has a point, in the UK $24 would translate to around half an hour of web development work in India $24 would get you considerably more time (not for much longer).
However there's also the argument that the market is also open, you can live in a country where they don't charge 17.5% Vat (soon to be 20%) on everything you purchase, and the cost of living is considerably less but still sell your app in the USA and UK, 18 copies at $1.99 would cover the cost.
My local petrol station is currently fleecing us for $1.90 per Litre (3.7 Litres to a Gallon = $7.03).
I understand the costs around the desktop version and how it can be a bit steep for people in some areas in the world. The Flash version will remain up and free forever while lacking some of the more advanced features of the desktop version it is still very capable of handling texture needs for complex games.
I appreciate all the support from everyone and look forward to building Zwoptex into even a better tool :)
-Robert
Well, I also live in a country with average salaries about $250/month. But we are all in business with equal opportunities no matter where we live (thanks to Internet and companies like Apple). You don't have such possibilities in real life. Can you imagine car manufacturers giving free cars? Or calling them and telling "are you serious about the price for so simple car like yours"? It's all about competition. When there are better tools than Zwoptex for less money I am sure Robert will lower the price...

If you follow the app store model, it's at this point you double the price ;)
