Game Developer Research: Indie Earnings Doubled When Working On Team

However, the average reported income disparity between those groups is significant: indie developers working alone reported an average income of $11,638 in 2009, while indie developers working with teams reported average personal income for the year of $20,248 -- nearly twice as high.
What the heck? Is this yearly income? I hope these guys have day jobs.

Averages remember. Hard to say if most people skew higher than that, or if most people skew far lower (and aren't doing this as a full-time thing) and/or if a few people have simply had very good luck (and brought the numbers up for everyone else).

I'm fairly certain that that isn't their only source of income:
"That strong contrast may partially reflect the difficulties one-man teams may have in marketing and monetizing their games. Yeah I try and team up when I can but I find lots of people are not receptive to starting relationships. :|
