    Thanks again all. has been a bit of a whirl - we've bumped up to 2nd most popular book for the iPad and 31st most popular iPad app overall! Also now hit mashable.com and the number of tweets about the app is ... dizzying

    @mattiasmak - the illustrations are retouched versions of John Tenniel ones, also out of copyright
    @aerostat - downloads for yesterday were about 30x as many for the lite version, 35x as many for the paid
    @wiegerthefarmer - we're down to a last few codes that we're saving for press sorry!

    Dont forget, you can gift apps now, so if you run out of codes, you can still give some away and only take a 30% hit (not counting taxes) ... Not suggesting that for our benefit, but if you have more press you need to support!

    That expense would count as marketing effort ...

    It's amazing that sometimes the simplest of ideas are the best ones (not trying to belittle your app by saying it's simple, it's a great idea) ... I'm going to have to rethink my app dev strategy a bit. I wonder how many other similar books we will see in the coming weeks?

    I have a friend who writes children's books ... may have to give her a call! :)

    Aurigan - did you have access to an ipad device prior to the official launch? It seems like lots of gesture tweaking would have to be done on a real device and the time to market seems quick.

    I originally though the ipad was sort of a gimmick due to it's shortcomings vs. price point but your app has changed my mind. If somebody asked me, "What does the ipad give you that you can't get from cheaper competing technologies?" I would show them your video. Brilliant!

    @jd - thanks, honestly i wasn't that sold on the iPad either ... i don't think it's really for us programers, maybe it's the first true mass market computer?

    No we didn't have access to an iPad before launch, we were using this (http://code.google.com/p/accelerometer-simulator/wiki/Home) and an iPhone. I then bought an iPad on launch day and we immediately released an update to tweak the physics (we found all the chipmunk springs were too 'strong' and gravity on the iPad was much stronger!)

    Question: How did you do the skeletal animation part where the cards are being blown at alice? Did you roll your own system?

    @klicktock - for that scene her torso and arms are separate chipmunk bodies, pin jointed at the shoulders then attached to a static body with a bunch of damped springs. her rocking about is the result of the cards hitting her. takes quite a bit of tweaking forces to get anything looking remotely realistic!

    @itlgames - no ... hadn't seen that one ... like any other news it seems that if you hit a few big websites everyone else will follow suit!

    the excitement level has now died down on the app (thankfully!) ... over the last few days we've had ~800k views on the youtube video, dozens of reviews and features on various websites, interviews by japanese,english,american,russian magazines and websites, contact from 5 major traditional print publishers and a TON of other emails offering all sorts of partnerships, deals, services. seeing it all in action has been fascinating!
