Cocos is entirely objective C, but if they enforce that rule then Unity and the flash cross compiler are out..
Funny, no Objective-C++ in that list, but I suppose that's implied..
A fast, easy to use, free, and community supported 2D game engine

I guess that shinyCocos (the ruby wrapper) doesn't comply with the new TOS...
apple spend so much time trying to stop users jailbreaking their iphones but then every update we see more and more jailbroken features in the iphone os
Glad I ditched Unity now (the original reason was the cheap license meant a 5 second Unity splash screen) not sure I'd like having an entire skill set balancing on this sort of decision. Do I or Don't I have a job on Monday, *gulp*
I am excited about GameCenter. I have been using OpenFeint since my 1.1 version of my app. I do feel a little bad about the idea of dropping them but I am really hoping that my app will be more easily found with these changes.
What do you guys feel about iAd? You think it will make more money than AdMob? I have my doubts. I'm thinking it's more like 0.03 cents for 60%.
"I think users will have more desire to click on an iAd than an AdMob ad, because they can go back to the app." :-) How's that?
Anyways, I agree with you on that point. However, I'm just wondering purely from a business standpoint. Is it going to provide us developers more income than the existing ad networks? I guess without any details, it's difficult to say. I would think that (even with today's announcement), we iPhone developers are still going to make little money for developing our apps.
"How's that?"
It's psychology, if the ads are interesting and the plataform is Apple, the people will click them more.
I click on those ads, for example, because those ads don't stop your activity and maybe the ad is funny.
But, I am not a marketing expert, It's my opinion.
@manucorporat
Sorry, I meant I changed your sentence a little bit. When you asked "BTW:Is the sentence correct?" LOL!
I can't remember the last advert that was interesting enough to divert me from what I was doing and make me leave an app, I can remember a couple that I clicked accidentally and got a little annoyed at. Adverts that work within an app must be better than the current approach.
I'll be interested to see how they distribute them.
@AkumaStreak, @manucorporat - yeah you are taking a chance when you build a business that Apple may want to move into. On one hand the admob ads were pretty uncreative and good for apple to create a better product. On the other hand OpenFient, plusplus, and others were innovating and its going to be tough to see them crushed bc Apple decides late-in-the-game to get into gaming social networks.
The thing that bothers me is that the Apple apps have such an advantage over 3rd party apps. They can sync in iTunes and they have access to other private APIs. Wasnt this the stuff we *hated* about Microsoft in the 90's? Wasnt that also one of the findings of facts in the government's case against them?
sigh - no automatic garbage collection that I can see. I was sure it would be turned on for 4.x.
But support for Grand Central Dispatch? Isnt that useful really only for multiple cores/processors? Maybe thats a good hint as to whats coming in the next iPhone hardware!
I'm quite excited to test some of the new features!
Personally I think the Game Center should be a lot better that openfeint or plusplus, because like someone said apple has access to all the private APIs and iTunes... Plus they may allow you to maybe log in with your apple ID...
Im downloading the iPhone OS 4.0 beta right now!
found this on GamaSutra:
Most notably, Apple announced an Xbox Live-like service called Game Center, which will roll out in a "preview" form along with the OS 4 launch this summer before fully releasing this fall.
so my assumptions about Game Center not being part of the original OS 4.0 were true
Does anyone know if Apple plans on charging iPod touch users for the 4.0 upgrade? There are a lot of iPod touch users and I bet that a bunch of them will not want to pay for an upgrade. This is why I would not discount Openfeint quite yet.
I hope they don't charge for 4.0 upgrade. That would be a huge headache for users and developers.
"OS4 shud b free, yr stillin me money. I h8 this OS"
Maybe we should be happy that not everyone is going to cough up to migrate from 2 to 4 ;)
LOL!!!
"Wasnt this the stuff we *hated* about Microsoft in the 90's? Wasnt that also one of the findings of facts in the government's case against them?"
I agree with the principle, but MS was investigated because it was a monoply, and I think, because it charged for those apps - so it was admitting they were not part of the OS . Apple does charge for some iLife stuff on the iPad, so that is a possible similarity.
I suppose the question is what is an OS? What can it have. OS code is definitely going to use private APIS - it has to. So is iTunes, or the iPod player on the device integral to the OS. It probably is to be for the iPod touch. An MPĀ£ player needs to play music. That is it's operating system - music play.
Still, bad practice though. Open it all up. where possible,
It looks like the hated "rate on delete" feature is removed for 4.0
