Hey all - here is a video of a game I've been working on scheduled for release soon. What do you think? :) For now, it's called "Twilight Hoplite". I've spent over a month on this already...initially I planed to work about 2-3 weeks for a simple game like this:( oh well...

The game looks awesome but the name sucks b*lls. What is it supposed to mean? When I saw the name listed on the forum I immediately thought of the Twilight movies and that Hopple squirrel jumping game. I'm sure you can come up with a better name, something that maybe references the horse rider and sounds a bit more mythic.

I had the same reaction as Steve. "Is this a Twilight game? Is this Hopple related?" Maybe you want that kind of completely unrelated name recognition, but for a cool game like this that obviously had a decent amount of work put into it, I would think you would want a better name as well.

@pgpprogram - Knight or Night Rider would be cool if it didn't make me think of David Hasselhof on a drunken bender.
I like Dark Colt. Or something with shadow, like Shadow Stallion. Or maybe Pet My Pony.
The last one is a joke ;)

Um.. hopple, really? I mean, nobody here knows that a hoplite is the name for a classical greek soldier? Granted, they are infantry and don't ride horses, so that's kinda weird. I would agree its possibly not the best name but I at least understand where it's coming from. The game is obviously riffing off the 300 "This is Sparta" riff, and doing an alright job of it too. Might be interesting to turn it on its head though and cast the player as a Persian Immortal, who did I believe actually sometimes ride horses. Plenty of interesting titles to go from with "Immortal."

Actually, I got inspired by watching "300" and created this game:) Yeah, I'm struggling
with the name too. The thing is I already submitted my game to Apple, I wonder if I can cancel the submission until I have a better name that Steve Oldmeadow thinks is cool:)

Having Twilight in the name is the thing I hated most. It makes it sound like the game is a cash in on the Twilight movies/books and 13 year old girls are going to expect to see Robert Pattinson's nipples.

@vutronic none of those names really stand out. I like Mercury but I don't think the majority of your audience will get it's significance. Steve seems very against Twilight, personally I've never seen the movie and never would have thought of it but you do have to consider your audience. How 'bout something like Stallion Hunt/Destiny/journey/crusade? Or The Epic Stallion? Or Mercury's Stallion?
Exorcyze and Steve -- hilarious! And I am man enough to admit that I forgot what a hoplite was. I know I knew this at some point -- I think they were a unit in an RTS I played (maybe AOE), now that Blue Ether kindly reminded me. Hehe.
Heck, now that I've been reminded that hoplite is a legitimate noun (ha), my vote is that your current name might serve you well. Look at all of the attention it got here! It may help get more eyes on your game via mental association. Old people like us are just as much at fault for overlooking twilight as simply a word, not just a brand (TEAM EDWARD! :-P), and for confusing Hopple with hoplites. :-)

@AkumaStreak - hmm..good point. It does stand out because it makes people curious. Most iphone user probably don't know what hoplite means..:)

I don't really get the 300 thing looking at the game, other than the helmet at the start. It seems to have more fantasy elements. The Lords of the Sea part seems very HP Lovecraft to me.
How are you describing the game in the description? I'm interested how you are pitching it. The video makes me curious who the guy on the horse is, why the horse can fly and where is he.

@Steve Oldmeadow - This is the rough version of my game's description. I might hire a copy writer to write it for me. The horse can fly b/c its' a magical horse:)
The end is near...the world is collapsing around you. You are the last of your kind, an elite warrior, racing again time and desperately trying to survive.
Twilight Hoplite is a quality fast-action, endurance game where your goal is to avoid air and ground obstacles such as rolling boulders, floating islands, drifting temple wreckage, and Draco's deadly balls of fire.
Amid the madness, armed with only your trusty javelins, you will have to hunt down vultures, Medusa's ghost, and horse grains to replenish your energy and gain coins.
