Tile map over an image.

Hello guys,

This what I am trying to do I have an image in the background and a tile map over some part of the image .Tile map is the part where the character can move .So is it possible to have this scenario and move the character tile by tile without moving it on the background.

I know i can add a scene and add the image as background .Then I can add the tile map as a layer and as as only layers can receive touches so the position of the tile can be calculated and character can be moved. Am i thinking in the right direction or is there any other way to think about this?

Not sure if I understand this correctly, but it sounds like you need to use a parallax layer. There is a nice example in the cocos2d testbed under ParallaxTest.
