Just released my first game using cocos2d and box2d. I'm quite proud of what I achieved, from the feedback I received until now, the game looks good and it's very fun to play, those were my objectives when I started this project.

Well it's a space shooter, my little homage to the classic arcades (Asteroids, Galaxy, Defender, ...)

I tried to use a promo code last night but the app store app on my iPhone wasn't being cooperative so I paid anyway. It's a fun game! I love space shooters.

I took MW676R4WH3KH .

I like the game; basic shooters are great fun. Graphics are nice, especially with the planets going past. First game I got to level 4.

I also really like the particle effects when accelerating the ship forward - the thrust looks very realistic and neat.

A couple of suggestions -

1) Music would add some polish to the game.
2) Menu system could use a more space-age style maybe? Marker Felt seems a bit incongruous with the rest of the game.
3) The game controls very smoothly (tilt is nice), but touching the screen to fire gets in the way of seeing the asteroids. I'm not sure how you get around this on iPhone... and it's not a problem with Space Blast specifically, but it's one of those things that bother me.

I'll keep playing and I'll leave an iTunes review for you. Thanks for sharing!

asinesio, thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you liked it. I'm preparing an update with some good music, with the option to turn it off of course because I personally like to play with my own ipod music playing in the background. But at least for the menu, I agree it gives a more polished look. And I will definitely change the menu fonts for something more space age.

I'm new to all this iPhone stuff, my background is with Flash. This may seem like a dumb question, but what is a "promo code"? I have seen these codes posted in forums, but am not sure how they are used, if they can each be used once or what the deal is with them.. I only have 2 apps on my iPod Touch which I got 2.5 months ago and have never used a promo code for anything.

@misterx - Promo codes function like itunes gift cards that basically entitle you to 1 free download of the application.

Go to the iTunes Store, click "Redeem", and paste in the promo code.

Each time you release an updated version of your app, you get 50 promo codes to give out. They work great for getting reviews on web sites.

Looks like a nice game, I may have a go. Problem with promo codes is you can only redeem codes if your iTunes account is on the US, so we rest of world can't really enjoy that feature! As developer you can just give them away... Will Apple one day extend the promo codes globally? Who knows...

I tried a "Promo Code" today, for another game, and I don't think it did anything, or maybe it had already been redeemed. I guess it gives you a credit towards a particular app or game..

On the app store at the bottom of the "featured" page, I clicked "Redeem" entered a code and it responded with "Code has been redeemed", and nothing more, so I don't know if it was already used or what. You'd think it would say, "Code has already been redeemed", or "The entered code has now been accepted and you may use it toward a purchase" or something like that

I thought maybe you would enter these promo codes after you select a certain game or app to buy. Seems kind of strange to just enter a code before you have even selected a game it supposedly applies to. I could have just redeemed a valid code and not used it, since it is unclear whether it had already been used or not or what the deal is with it.

Maybe I can try a SpaceBlast promo code, if there is still an unused one left, just to see how the promo code thing works, if someone will explain how you know whether or not a code has been used already.

Also are these codes case sensitive when you enter them?

mguedes - I like SpaceBlast. It's a fun game in the tradition of space shooter like Galaga. A couple of comments/suggestions...

- The first time I played SpaceBlast, it wasn't obvious to me that you controlled your spaceship using the accelerometer
- I second asinesio's suggestion about background music for the game
- I like the "little" details in the game, like the explosions and the thrust effects
- I couldn't figure out how to pause the game

I'm testing a new update to be hopefully submitted today for review that includes:

Facebook integration.
Music and FX to be turned on-off on settings.
Pause.
Credits page.

Do you know if with a new release, the promo codes for the old one will still be valid?

Facebook integration
Background Music
Pause button
More settings and levels fine tuning
