All I have to say is that if this is true, it's about damn time.

LOL yeah, I really thought that I wouldn't get one because of the no multi tasking thing. I think it'll sell like hotcakes to be honest, at 500$ that's an awesome machine.
Interesting article, thanks for sharing.
However, If I were to make a guess, I would imagine multitasking will not really happen (at least anytime soon). I mean, iphones/iPod touches do not even have folders at this point...which to me is far more intuitive to most (even to casual cellphone/Mp3 player) users than the idea of multitasking (ie: handling/shutting down tasks that are no longer needed and are eating up performance and battery life.)
Apple's claim to fame is the ease of it's interfaces which is partly explained by the inherent limiting of advanced capabilities... I would be very surprised to see them offer something as complicated as multitasking when they don't offer anything as simple as folders. In addition, adding multitasking now would require a large jump in processing power as well as memory or many current games/apps that push the boundaries of available resource usage will no longer function.
On the other hand, the 50% increase in processing power for the latest 32/64gb ipod touch models (as well as their increased memory if I recall) would be an indicator that this may be considered down the line.
It will be interesting to see if this is rumor number 4 or if it is for real this time.
