@abitofcode - why not have a countdown timer after hitting "resume" from paused? You have 3 seconds to get ready and then you can get your thumb in position and be ready when it starts.
- Or move the resume button directly over the thruster button, so you can tab resume and then you're already over the thruster button?

The update has made it up onto the app store, hope everyone likes it. Still seem to be plenty of reviews coming in which is weird, hope they pick up on the changes.

I'll look into the resume controversy for the next update ;) I'm worried that if I make it too easy to pause people may use it as a means to ratchet up their scores (albeit slowly). Let me know if there are any changes you don't like, it's difficult playing with a game that has one basic gameplay mechanism, you don't have to do much before you annoy people :s

I just checked the leaderboards, wow seems like "soy el mejor" really rocks on all levels. But if I remember he managed to score them before an update.
I'm afraid that 300 is my very top limit for the hard level, what a score - 392! Congrats "I am the best"! ;)

I've not managed a good score since I released it onto the app store :s I regularly scored over 200 on the hard setting, I'm lucky if I reach 110 now :(

But that's your own game? Shouldn't you be grandmaster of STAp? LOL!
I'm not very good at it myself. I think my highest score is 30 something.

@abitofcode do you remember what was your proposal when I suggested "scores blind" enhancement in #post-30281, it's time for me to take a shot, or even better, you could build a special "scores blind" version, maybe this is the last hope for all of us - "used to be good" ;)

Super Turbo Action Pig is free today ! :)
Don't have time to play longer today, but I just loooooove the art style

Super Turbo Action Pig still free! It's nice to see positive movement in the y axis for a change ;)
Still have no idea how anyone managed 411 on the medium level

We're thinking of keeping the game free for a little longer, getting lots of downloads (10's of k) at the moment after the FAAD promotion.
Getting plenty of 1,2 and 3 star reviews but when you do the maths these make up less than 100th of a percent of the downloads. The rate on delete function is definitely skewing the ratings.
We'd really appreciate votes on the FAAD site, it only takes 20 seconds (honest guv).

Looking forward to getting past these PHP projects and back onto iPhone development :D

Its a great game I dont regret buying even though its free now. At least you should of made a separate free version with ads. Also, luckily for future games at least, rate on delete is going away. Man, the app store can be brutal - I hope you made some good $ when you were selling it.

@codemattic, cheers. We're planning on ending the sale soon, STAPig and the whole ipad development thing has been a real eye opener. Luckily we're not relying on the Sales, though it would be nice to spend a little less time in the PHP and flash day job. FAAD has been pretty amazing over 250,000 downloads of the pig in 2 days I have no idea if this is typical for FAAD I just know it's not typical for me :s
Posted 1 year ago # -
well I hope after the 2 days the downloads keep coming - please check back in and let us know.

250k is a lot I guess. Tiki Totems had 200k if I remember well, our other game... under 50k, music/sound games don't do well on AppStore
Good luck after switching to paid and remember that a large user base is essential for future projects. Cross-promotion etc

Fingers crossed :)
If anyone has a second I'd appreciate a confirmation of the number of people on the medium scoreboard, it seems to be stuck at 79,348 Open OF and scroll to the bottom of the scoreboard).

I'm seeing 124,431 users counted on the medium leaderboard.
Posted 1 year ago # -
wow thats a lot of users, how does the ratio of users in the leader board compare with sales?
Posted 1 year ago # -
approx 420k when mhussa posted the leaderboard numbers above.
Posted 1 year ago # -
wow, really impressive numbers!
Unfortunately, it seems that the bad side effect of putting the app on total sale are bad ratings, maybe would be better to wait until apple will disable that ugly feature while deleting the app, hopefully soon.On the other hand, I can't believe the high scores I see on all difficult levels are really made by humans, just insane score numbers. Respect!

I know what you mean about the high scores, I didn't expect anyone to get much past 500!
The negative ratings do suck but when you put them in context its a tiny percentage, I don't mind the odd 1 and 2 star reviews at least they've made the effort to log in and write something. Had they sent the feedback to our support address we could look at acting on their ideas.
Can't wait for the rate on delete feature to be scrapped :)
Posted 1 year ago # -
I wouldn't worry, you have 4 1/2 pages of 5 star reviews

Just coming to the end of our FreeAppADay experience, talk about a roller coaster ride. We had a freaky amount of downloads in a very short time while free, this of course dropped through the floor when we returned to paid but at a slightly higher rate than we had been doing before the promo.
Inevitably our nice shiny rating got a good kicking thanks largely to the rate on delete feature I guess, but when you do the maths the percentage of 1,2 and 3 stars given is around 0.008% of the people who downloaded it. My favorite comments from the unwashed masses have to be;
Fun for a few minutes - The artwork is really good, but did the publisher(s) do any actual work on this game? They paid a design company to do the artwork for them and used the cocos2d game engine for the programming. Cheaters! I got this free from FAAD, but it's not worth 1.99 at all and even .99 is pushing it.
Never ever... - Do not get! Piece of crap! Game is so stupid it makes me want to puke!
Thanks to everyone who gave a positive rating

Fun for a few minutes...

...makes me want to puke!Man Im sorry, I was in a bad mood, I really should go back and edit that.
Unwashed indeed.

You are kidding right? Michael and Chris are just so straight up GREAT GUYS, one codes and the other does art, AWESOME ART, please tell me you are kidding? Michael did the cocos2d iPhone logo he is one of the best illustrators, if not the best, illustrator on this planet.
Mike

I had my game free for a week and got the same effect: bad reviews on delete. I never got featured either. And my art is not as good as STAP.
Posted 1 year ago # -
@Codemattic lol, trying to take credit for a carefully honed soundbyte, I'm considering putting it up on iTunes though I may take a bit of artistic license and shorten it to;
"Game is so stupid it makes me want to puke!" :D
@M2281 I guess you've seen my code, no capital letters for me ;)
Mike is quite sickeningly talented in the art department, he was featured earlier this year along with some other great artists here.
We're planning the next game in a couple of weeks time, and when all this web work is out of the way I'm gonna take a look at how I can update the Pig (sorta coded myself into a corner with that one).

@abitofcode thats what Penny Arcade did when they came out with their first game - their pull-quotes were from nasty user reviews. Its kind of a badass move if you feel you can pull it off - its like saying we are so sure of the quality of our game we can joke about this up front.
@M2281 yeah Mike, kidding, STAP is great great fun. It has AWESOME CODE! (happy now abitofcode?)
@tbone28 sorry to hear it, it is a real problem, not sure how to combat that.
Posted 1 year ago # -
@codemattic coolio, quite like the going badass renegade styley type idea, quite a few reviews to choose from though it would probably be wise to do it once the traffic drops off a bit. btw THANKS :D
@tbone28 Not sure it'll help but this article has convinced me that apart from the odd sale $0.99 is just not feasible as a price. We pushed up our price after the FAAD promo and now seem to get a lot less 1* reviews, I guess the $1.99 purchasers bother to spend a couple of minutes looking into their purchase before blindly pressing the install button.
