   I want to play an sequence of png files for animation. I tried executing the following code in cocos2d iphone

   -(void) onEnter {

   [super onEnter];

   roadSprite=[[Sprite spriteWithFile:@"R00.png"] retain];
   [roadSprite setPosition:ccp(240,160)];
   [self addChild:roadSprite z:5];

   Animation* animation = [Animation animationWithName:@"animation" delay:0];
   for( int i=0;i<25;i++)
   {

   [animation addFrameWithFilename: [NSString stringWithFormat:@"R%02d.png", i]];

   }

   id action1 = [Animate actionWithAnimation: animation];

   [roadSprite runAction:action1];

   }

   The animation doesnt get played instead the R00.png gets displayed lastly. Can anyone help me to find the mistak

   I beleive you need to call a selector to actually run the animation like so :

   -(void) animate: (ccTime) dt
   {
   //reset frame counter if its past the total frames
   if(frameCount > 1) frameCount = 0;

   //Set the display frame to the frame in the walk animation at the frameCount index
   [self setDisplayFrame:@"walkAnimation" index:frameCount];

   //Increment the frameCount for the next time this method is called
   frameCount = frameCount+1;

   }

   I'm not sure if this line that you have will work
   [Animate actionWithAnimation: animation];

   Looks like you are setting up everything ok.
   You are using it slightly different to me.

   Try just initiating the animation by itself in init() - see if it works and cycles through in order using a delay of 0.2f - do you see it cycle through?

   However, I don't think your NSString stringWithFormat is correct.
   Have you checked the console?
   I think you might see an error loading the other animation frames.

   You are missing actual variable in the string - the "i".

   Try - stringWithFormat:@"R%i02d.png" - not sure if this is the correct syntax for your files but its a start. It will try and load "R002d.png", "R102d.png" etc etc based on your loop.

   You first sprite works since you set it as default.

   His stringWithFormat seems correct to me.
   His first file is named R00.png, so I will assume that continues as R01.png, R02.png, R03.png

   %02d in his string will integrate the next variable (which is i, as it is passed as an arguement after the , ) into the string as an unsigned integer (%d), with a width of 2 (%2d) filling it out with zeroes on the left if it's less than 2 chars (%02d).

   That works alright.

   w/ shazbox: I'm pretty sure that delay is the length of time the frame is displayed before the animation advances to the next frame. Having a 0 value here might cause abnormal behavior.

   This thread had me curious to see what the effect of 0 would be for the delay. I have about the same code in Christmas Melodies to animate the fire and plugged in 0 and basically it just flies through the animation. For reference, here's what I'm using:

   fire = [Sprite spriteWithFile:@"1.png"];
   Animation* animation = [Animation animationWithName:@"fire" delay:0.1f];
   for( int i=1;i<21;i++) {
   	[animation addFrameWithFilename: [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%i.png", i]];
   }
   
   id action = [Animate actionWithAnimation: animation];
   id repeating = [RepeatForever actionWithAction:action];
   fire.position = ccp(350,95);
   [self addChild:fire z:-1];
   [fire runAction:repeating];

   I recall playing with the delay to get the best look.

   @Tim - thanks for clarification - i'm new to c/obj c

   Just running the animation separately with a new delta will sort that out if thats the problem.

   I just tested in my game with a delta of 0 and it only ever appears to display the first frame of animation. This seems to be whats happening to muniraj as he said he only sees his R00.png being displayed.

   The problem was with the delay value.
   As it was set to zero the problem is caused.
   Once a value like (1f/24f)is given it works fine.
