Id love it if this new forum had karma or reputation points. So if somebody took the time to help you figure out something you could give them a karma point. The google groups had stars, but Im not sure many people used them. Would anyone else like this?

what does it mean/how does it translate to english? (the reputation system)

You have a certain number of points which are like currency. Somebody helps you out or does something positive you can give them some. If you help someone out, maybe they will give some to you. It (hopefully) encourages posters to contribute.

I just gave all mine to Riq. Surely, Riq should start at 2,000,000 points or we should all just give our points to him?

I guess that, in the end, it's a quick way of knowing who helps (or try to) and who doesn't..

I'm installing / uninstalling plugins.
I'm doing some tests with the plugins. For the moment karma plugin is disabled.

My idea is to install only the necessary plugins because:
- the site is more secure
- the site is lighter
- attention is focused on the content / discussions

karma might be a good idea, but I'm not sure yet.

In my opinion, as far starring things go, it probably makes sense to have that feature for particular posts that have useful information for everyone to use/share.

Things like post count, rep points and other things unnecessarily divert attention from the actual content and I think the content should take front stage..

You guys are probably right. At first I thought it might be a good tool to encourage helpful posts. But now that Im actually using it - it just seems unnecessary and distracting. Sorry - it was an experiment.

Well for me the karma is not too relevant.

There are more things that would be better, like starring a post, inside a thread seeing what are the new replies, pagination for threads, private messages, seeing in a quick look the new potst, seeing unreplied posts, ... and many more.

Putting the forum too light will cut good features.

For me adding any feature as a plugin is not a good way, when bbPress changes some plugins can be messed.
