   Hi there,

   does anyone know how the new FontLabel (TTF) vs BitmapFontAtlas vs prerendered Image behave in terms of performance?

   My special interest lies in FontLabel vs BitmapFontAtlas, since creating bitmap fonts is always additional work for me (convert my TTFs).

   ** Rendering: **
   Label (using FontLabel or not), BitmapFontAtlas and LabelAtlas has more or less the same performance.

   Perhaps Label is a little bit faster since it only renders 2 triangles, versus 2 triangles per char of BitmapFontAtlas and LabelAtlas.

   ** Updating: (modify the string) **
   Label (using FontLabel or not) is VERY VERY slow. It creates a new texture in every string update

   BitmapFontAtlas and LabelAtlas are VERY fast.

   So if we're not updating it, then performance is essentially the same all around right?

   @onedayitwillmake: yes, if you don't update the Label, then Label and *Atlas will have more or less the same performance.

   The performance hit with Label only happens once on the update though, correct? So if you're performing infrequent updates ( like displaying amount of health a player has, versus displaying a countdown timer ) then it should be negligable?

   @exorcyze: it depends on the frequency. Just remember that creating or updating a Label is very expensive. But it is cheap to render it.
