I agree changes needed to be made, but updates need a way to be noticed by new users somehow, or developers will just stop updating altogether, which will just degrade the store for end users even more....
I've just filed a bug with apple, suggesting they consider at least a 'recently updated' list or similar. I encourage everyone to do the same, otherwise nothing will likely change!
We've got a new app that was approved yesterday. We set the release date to Nov. 12 and it is a version 1.0 app. Still not showing up in the new releases list. The app is in the store and shows the correct date. The new releases list has also been updated since we showed up in the store, so I'm a bit concerned it's not going to show up there.
Yeah, when mine was approved it was saturday afternoon.

So it looks like there is a way around this. I see an app called Obama! with 2000 reviews and comments from Feb that is in the New Releases puzzle list. It says it is version 1.0, so I'm assuming they just re-submitted their app without changing the version number?
I think that's the catch also. All of them are resubmitting with same version number. I was afraid to do that with my apps and risking rejection after 10-15 days, and I hope it's really stupid Apple glitch and it's not left there so their friends can actually benefit from this change...
I just can't believe Apple looks actual version number to decide if that's the first version of the app, because many devs change their version numbers even while they are still developing, so they actually submit their first version different than 1.0. Just can't believe Apple is that stupid ;(
