   Hello everybody,
   I have high quality images that my graphics designer has provided me with, but when I try to resize them, the image quality deteriorates. It gets kind of blurry. What I usually do in Photoshop to resize an image is I go to Image -> Image size, set appropriate size. Then I save it as PNG by going to File->Save As -> PNG with Interlace option set to none. But my images end up having bad quality. I would really appreciate if you could provide me with some useful tips/tricks/techniques/urls of how to properly resize images so they do not loose their quality. And what format do you guys usually choose to save you images as? Thank you.

   not sure what you mean about "bad quality". If they are fuzzy, it could be you need to turn off anti-aliasing. This can be accomplished by calling [texture setAliasTexParameters];

   You can't resize a raster image to a greater size and preserve its quality.

   If you resize any png/jpg/etc you will lose quality. There is no way around it. You can reduce the damage with adjustment of settings, but it still won't look as good.

   If you can get your artist to make the artwork in vector format, for example from illustrator or inkscape, you can resize with minimal quality loss.

   I do all my art in vectors. It makes changes much easier.

   I would definately agree that having your source art in vector format ( if possible ) is a great first-step.

   For the rasterized images, target 120 DPI if possible. Also if you are resizing raster images there are generally options in Photoshop that let you select which resampling algorithm you want to use when resizing ( IE Bicubic, Nearest Neighbor, etc ). You can play around with these to see which will work best for what you're doing. There isn't a "one size fits all" approach with these - different algorithms work better for different situations.

   Also, your results will likely vary if you import vector art to target the final size, versus importing it at a larger size and rescaling it.

   I find the most difficult resizing of vector art is making it very small. Too much detail can often make an image as distorted as a shrunk Photoshop image (or even worse in some cases).

   Leaving details on separate layers that can be turned off is very helpful. Also, adjusting line width, or ideally, not using line colors at all, makes resizing much easier.

   If your using Flash for your images/animations, we had a few issues with thin line widths when exporting. They were'nt coming out consistently.

   So we now save out all our artwork at 2x size, and do a batch resize via Photoshop before creating the sprite sheets. Seems to work pretty well for us.
