A fast, easy to use, free, and community supported 2D game engine
Anyone have a list? Links? I have been traversing the not-so-great free font sites I've found for what I have so far. Everything I've used in game (that I've found for free) looks like it came straight out of Microsoft Word's most basic set of fonts (in other words, boring).

Free for personal use != free as in beer

dafont has a number of fonts which are free (as opposed to free for personal use, which you can't use in your game).

I went through this hunt just this last week but really wanted some nice 3D fonts. I found Art Text at http://www.belightsoft.com/ to be pretty cool and easy to use to make some stylish text.
Just be careful when you use fonts from any site that says it's 'free.' Many times I've downloaded fonts, unzipped the files, and found the readme to contain something to the effect of:
"As far as we know this font is free for public domain use..."
If you use a font like this, you're app might become incredibly popular, someone sees their font in your app, and you get sued.
Unless it's very obvious a font is free for public AND commercial use (e.g., being said on the creators website itself), I would recommend to always take the extra step to contact the creator and get permission.
