I think I'm missing the whole release date process. They say app/update is approved. I change my release date to current date it is approved minutes after getting email. For a minimum of 2 hours the app is not updated in itunes or device app store. After that time I do see the date is reflected on the product page but not in categories. After midnight sometime I guess it will finally put your app in the proper category search and with the proper release date. This puts you a day behind.

Did I miss anything?

The whole app store is apparently made of many many servers that happen to sychronize with the main database at different times. So everything lags for a few hours (well on occasions a few days I have seen).

That's normal for everyone then? Just checking because the day I get my update email I see plenty of apps with that current date listed properly under new releases. My approvals have been in the evening however.

My lite version was approved today at 11:20am and I updated it immediately. I don't see it on the phone app store under release date for Action or Arcade yet.

I believe that is how its behaving right now. 2-3 months ago when I released my first app I was able to change it and it showed up relatively fast, but the last time I released something (an update), it didnt show up for hours.

Then for a few hours more, depending on how you reached the app (searching, or by clicking through my company name), it gave you one or the other version.

The App Store is like a magic 8 ball. Sometimes you get the answer you want, but most times it leaves you more confused.

The free app has been correctly displayed in categories since around 6:30pm. So it took about 7 hours. At least I know what to anticipate going forward. Each release I learn something.

I was at Apple cupertino last week, my friend works in the hardware department. I got a tour of the server rooms etc. They have crap loads of stuff...yet most of the back ups are on one server! Having said that it is constantly backed up on and off site, I think it would be impossible for them to lose anything. I found out about a few upcoming things but of course sworn to secrecy. The servers all take time to propergate all the information and after seeing spagetti junction at Apple it's hardly surprising..lol.

I think they are just lame. The whole release date process, app store lists and everything about iTunes is just wrong. Their servers are not slow because of lack of hardware but because of bad bad organization of everything... You can't tell me they don't have money for more hardware if that's the cause of the problems? Or that there are so many requests to their servers that they can't handle it? What would google do with their number of requests or youtube alone? It seems to me that their servers are communicating via carrier pigeons that are very very tired

Well, right now, iTunes Connect is refusing half my changes for no reason other than "we can't save your changes right now" :-(.

They are doing something about it though, my friend is working extra overtime to reconfigure the servers and install extra capacity, they basically expanded to fast for their capacity and are working hard to fix it.

Don't get me wrong I bitch too when my app doesn't get approved for a simple keyword or takes 6 weeks to approve, I know it's not perfect guys but it will get better and after all without Apple you wouldn't be on this forum and making great apps.
