We've done several Google adwords campaigns, but only the Content Network type, not bidding on search results. Usually you only have to bid a few cents per click for the content network so you can get everything much cheaper than bidding on search results. Some of ours work out to only a little above a penny per click, that's affordable even for a $0.99 app.
