@phil_me_up, what was the problem with your company name after you changed program from individual to standard? Was it difficult anyway ? Any costs involved?

Setting the release date after the approval date can affect the game

When I recently released my first game the release date was set to about 7 days later than the approval date. I couldn't find it in the new games list even though the release date seems to be listed correctly in app store, which has led to basically no US sales, only local sales for the first couple of days. I assume those sales can be coupled to my friends and mixed random downloads. I set the release date in an attempt to maximize sales, the result has proven to be the complete opposite. Never again...

Sigh. Unfortunately got affected by this as well - Ski Solitaire was due for release on the 24th (today). Imagine our shock when we tried looking for it to only find it is positioned no. 89 on the cards list. That's right - it was listed as the 18th November, 6 days prior. Filed a complaint with Apple but with the staff gone for the Thanksgiving holiday, its going to be a while until we get a response.

@wilczarz - Sorry, only just seen your post.
The problem was that when the licenses changed, it kept my name rather than the company name. I contacted Apple several times to check if everything was OK and they assured me it was but on release day, I see that it's wasn't. Not a huge deal but annoying non the less.
Actually changing licenses was pretty simple. I've heard some nightmare stories but I had to send a couple emails, fax some evidence and have one quick call and that was it. I think i was unable to login to iTunesConnect and the development portal for a couple of hours too but that wasn't a problem.
@fet_loa & Stephen - Sorry to hear that... It's really not fair that this error / bug / misunderstanding can have such a big impact on indie developers where every download (especially the first few) count so much. Hopefully apple will fix it soon.
I guess the best advice is that if you're releasing an app soon, plan for 3 to 4 weeks of it being sat dormant to ensure that it will be picked up as new.

On the iOS 5.0 Tech Talk World Tour I had a chat about this issue with someone from Apple that works on the iTunes connect, she told me if you set the release date before the app is approved, this shouldn't happen. But I found that weird cos once the app is approved I doubt it very much we can change the release date as it is already released. So for any one affected fill in a complaint.

I'm well annoyed god damn it. my new game Cave Shooter 2 was approved on the 6th dec with a release date of 21st dec which i set well before i submitted my binary . which is well over 2 weeks difference yet game went live today and low and behold its right down the new list having a release date of the 6th dec not happy at all.

Perhaps this is happening randomly. Invisible Me was approved on 1st December, but I set it as 2nd December before. It ended up being released in the correct date though.

I set my 'availability date' to tuesday 25th and have already uploaded binary. So if my app gets approved between 16th and 20th am I most likely affected by this?
So what is my move to access store immiedately after approval? Should I change the availability date to, let's say today (15th) ?

It might be a good technique to change availability date *everyday* before getting approved, to maximize chances that these two dates match. I am really confused about this and I have this funny feeling I will feel get suckered anyway.Posted 1 month ago # -
Something to consider: While I agree that the released / approved system is busted, I also think that very, very few people actually look at the "new apps sorted by release date" lists. And my hunch is that most of those are the developers involved in those apps. There are so many apps being released daily, that even if the system did work correctly, each app would show up on that list in any meaningful shape or form for only a few hours. I wouldn't really consider that approach a very effective way of advertising the existence of your app. Sad, I know.
