Scale Middle of Sprite

I would like to have a button with dynamic width. The button would scale in the middle but the edges would not. To accomplish this, I made a left image, right image and middle image. Then I scale the middle to the size I need. The issue I am having is that when I scale the middle part, the edges fade to partially transparent or to black. Anyone know how I can properly scale this or another technique to make buttons like this?

It worked perfectly.
