Hey guys, so I made a preview trailer for my game which should be out pretty soon and it isn't doing as well as I had hoped. I was thinking of doing another (hopefully much better) release trailer for when the game is out on the App Store and thought I'd ask what are some things you should include or would hope to find in a trailer?

@psykano I can give you my opinion what I would like to see:
1) Firstly, it should not be boring - kind of obvious, right? :)
2) 60 seconds of the length is a max.
3) It should be intriguing but also show interesting pieces of the game play.
4) Good music nicely coordinated with the trailer action is a must.
5) Nice opening and ending making you to want an impulse purchase is definitely a bonus.Good luck with the trailer!

Thanks!
I wonder if 2) could be extended to 1 min 30 seconds since it takes some time to have a nice opening and ending including splash screens. I agree with 4) very much so I'm trying to get access to Final Cut since iMovie doesn't allow for a very granular timeline. I notice you didn't mention including the game's features. Do you think this would be a good idea? Or should the gameplay sell the game considering it is an Action/Arcade game rather than a Puzzle game.

Re 2) If you think that you can keep people attention for extra 30 seconds without making them bored then you can try it.
I do not think that trailer should include everything. It is not a tutorial. Something should be left for imagination.
I do not mention game's features since usually they are standard. If your game’s features stand out above the crowd than yes, by all means, show them.
Again, people understand that this is just a trailer, trying to show them everything could be more distractive then helpful.
Like in a move trailer you show just the best few pieces and make people believe that the rest is even more awesome. Of course this is just my personal opinion.Posted 8 months ago # -
I think cocos sums this all up quite well. When planning the Zen Wars trailer (http://tinyurl.com/3wvqxmy) I went to youtube and looked at the trailers from the successful games, after all, they must be doing something right if they are successful. I made a list of what I liked about the trailers and what I didn't and used that to talk to the actual trailer maker. So thats what I would suggest: analyze successful trailers and then make one with your game's personal touch.

Don't waste any time showing the menus and settings menus in the trailer. Just get right to the gameplay which is what everyone wants to see. You can have an intro, just keep it short.
