   I also noticed that Lodysys link with Quantcast (view source code) so it's a good bet that their selling any info they grab from website visits too. They obviously need to bet money to register more patents in order to kill creativity, stifle innovation and generally p**s off anyone they feel like.

   Yep, basically that. Its all about them wanting more cash, to get more patents, to get more money.
   I think they (the US Government) should consider revoking the patents involved as many innocent people are getting abused because of it.

   I think the government actually need to look at how patents are granted. There is very little reason why just an idea or concept should be patented, an actual design / implementation etc is a different matter but right now, I could probably patent the idea of "A method of providing people with the information their thinking about through visual means". Do I know how to do it? No, but I could probably get it patented in some way and then just wait for the money to roll in (or more accurately wait long enough so the company that actually made it earns some serious money, then start suing).

   In the current situation, I mean till they have more patents for you to pay, if it's a good business, since you pay, they will ask you to pay more, surely.

   Paying the troll would make their biz model work. THAT'S A BAD IDEA

   Apparently apples new policy is not to allow free to paid upgrades. Haven't heard anything else though.

   @Liv Games - where did you hear / get this info?

   I ask because my contact lens app comes in two flavors, full and a free one that can be "upgraded" through IAP's to basically match the functionality of the full version.
