Description:

It's the evening shift at Fare City Taxis. Soon the city will come alive as the downtown crowds party the night away. As the new dispatcher it's your job to get them where they need to go pronto.

Sure, life's pretty simple at the start with only one taxi on duty, but as the night gets going you better stay on your toes because business ain't slowing and the taxis keep coming.

I used EFX3PXYENLLJ - first game impressions - very well done! The graphics are great and very consistent throughout the game. Game play starts out easy but then quickly ramps up, really good. Good luck with the app and I will submit my review in just a bit but know that it will be positive and 5 stars.

just bought it. I am not a big fan of flightcontrol clons, but this one has a really polished and unique look.

At the same time, I hope it does generate a following because I have a whole host of ideas for new game modes and enhancements.

I got to play around for about 20 minutes, and let me tell you this is high quality work right there. I haven't found any bug or glitch.
***I'm going to write a review you deserve the max points.***

-graphics: very neat and homogeneous throughout the entire game. Maybe a little too dark color range overall,

-sounds: Now, just to toss in some constructive criticism, the music is great, but that won't do it after playing a couple hours.
EDIT: I notice you can play your own sound tracks. That might be why you decided to leave only 1 track.

-GUI: perfect , some items might be a little too tiny imo.

-playability: Wow! The path I draw with my finger is drawn so smoothly, how the hell did you do that? Mind sharing tips or code with the community?

-lifetime: Now that's a bit weak there in my opinion, but hey, for the price it cost, it's above expectations

Final word: Please let us know what are the sales trend cause you got it all to ramp to the top apps. Gratz.

Congrats! Beautiful looking game. Love the design throughout. Also a novel approach to the FC premise, not just a rehashing as some are. Really impressed with your algorithm for drawing the lines. Works perfectly! Left a well deserved 5-star. I'm about 2 days away from submitting our first cocos2d-based game, so I can only imagine how thrilled you must be!

Thanks for the great feedback.

To answer your points:

- coloration: it is a little on the dark side, but on the plus side it does give a distinctive look when compared to most other line drawing games.
- sounds: also agree regarding a single track (though most 99c games tend to have just a twenty second loop). If it gets traction I want to add a choice of styles, but then again it may be better to add direct access to the iPod playlists.
- GUI size: boy was that a hard one to resolve! The problem is that taxi size is dictated by the 3 x 4 street grid. (The game just doesn't work with fewer streets.)
- playability: thanks, it was definitely the most time consuming part of the game. As it is 1.0.1 (which I hope to submit next week) includes several fixes to pathing so it will be getting better. :-) I want to get a blog going on my website so I'll try to cover something about this there and cross post.
- lifetime: agreed, but if I can get enough interest I want to add several new game modes that should extend it quite a bit. With the game engine pretty solid I don't expect this to be too difficult, but Fare City has taken four months of elapsed (and increasingly full) time so it really needed to get out the door.

Anyway, I'm quite pumped about the game!

I started in the beginning of May. At that point I was about a third of the way through the Stanford U iPhone videos and had been playing around with my new iMac and Xcode for a couple of weeks (my background is middleware for the PC). I was also doing other stuff in the early stages so I guess it would be fair to say that although it was in development for four months it was nearer two months full-time + plus learning curve. On top of that I was working with a great graphics designer (Kuni Ninagawa at KDS) who did a really great job of the artwork and many of the design concepts. There were also quite a few play testers who helped out.

So it is reasonable to say that the game cost very little in money, but it will need to see a lot more downloads to pay for our time...

The video was captured from the simulator using Snapz Pro X. Editing was done with iMovie '09.
(Of course it helps to have a really great graphics designer as well. :)

Just to let people know that we have our first review - AppVee has given Fare City 5 stars! (http://www.appvee.com/t/iphone-app-review-fare-city)

Folks might be interested to know that we did a review submission through their website contact form on September 19. We did not receive any reply but this morning one of the team came across their video review on YouTube.

So the takeaways are:
- contact forms do work
- make sure you give them everything they need (particularly promo codes) because they are unlikely to bother entering an email exchange
- don't expect to be told about the review; keep checking back!

@cybergreg I agree but I'm basically trapped by Flight Control and Harbor Master pricing. I will be reviewing the price when 1.1 is ready to ship.

I'm glad you like it. Visibility had dipped now that we are not on the first fold of New and Noteworthy and sales have done the same. It seems that Apple is pretty much the decider of what sales and what doesn't...
