As far as the game goes it's not named yet just using Cave Shooter the sequel as a holder for the
This screen shot Is from a level from the ice world.
The game has you flying your ship down caves trying to escape shooting your way through laser force fields with out crashing into the walls ,dodging enemy fire which collimates in facing the boss for each level. More info soon

Does the background Ice have any kind of movement ?
Only thing bugging me are the bullets, they look so clean compared to the background, maybe you could adjust those a little bit ?
Maybe the ship could use some more texturing as well.
Looking forward to more screens !

Hi ekinsol thanks for the input. Yes I have the ice background as static at the moment in it's beta stage but looking into scrolling it at a diff rate to give some perspective.
Will bare that in mind about the ship and yes kind not 100 percent happy with bullets so got a little work to do on that.
More screen shots soon

hi guys thought i would just tell you a little about who i am.
im happy to say im a one man team, i had never programmed anything in my life up to year ago.
so 12 months a go i decided to start learning objective-c with programming iphone games in mind, spent 6 months hard learning from any objective-c book or resource i could get my hands on, boy it was tough having never learned a computer language.but i got through it.6 months passed and now i can write basic stuff in objective-c so next i purchased my first book called begining iphone 3 dev and started to work on the iphone.
i got about half way through it after about 2 months and could see no direct relation to game development so i took a side turn and stumbled across a free amazing game engine called cocos2d.
well i started writing a basic game and within days had something basic running on my iphone, great i thought so i produced a piggy bank app (pocket money saver) to learn the approval process and moved on to writing my first propper game.
i had decided early on i wanted to write a cool retro cave game, so off i went, it was a steep learning curve as i had to do sound and graphics myself as had no budget, well the day came to releaseing it and wahoo i finally had a game on itunes (Cave Shooter), well sales were slow but boy that did not put me off i was hooked.
so now off i went to write a better sequel , producing updates for Cave Shooter along the way, and this leads me up till today where im a short way off releasing my next game which i feel is 1000 times more polished game.
well thanks for listening hope wasnt too boring but i feel its good to give people background on the journey.

hi guys gonna post a new screen shot early next week so keep a look out.
Posted 10 months ago # -
hi guys well like promised here are 3 new screen shots, these are still early build but the game is coming long nicely, in these screen shots you can see the virtual joystick and shoot button but you can also play this game with tilt contril and auto fire.

in this image you will see the rock theme level with the ship about to shoot out one of the lasers you have to pass, all lasers have a little energy bar next to them so you know how many more hits it will take.

here you will see a end level boss a few levels in, it has 3 guns that shoot at you that have to be destroyed, then you can destroy the main part in the center of the ship, again you can see that each part has a littler energy bar so you know how many more hits its going to take.

this image is same as above but you can see one of the guns has been taken out.also over the 3 screenshots you can see a very crude hud layer that wont be present in final game.
guys please note that the bullets you see from the enemy and from the space ship are just place holders till i design some new ones.
well guys what do you think hope you like them. please feel free to leave any comments, all previous comments were really helpfull. thanks colynPosted 10 months ago # -
Any comments guys as there is still time to make improvements.thanks colyn

hi guys sorry for no reply in a while been working really hard on Cave Shooter 2. Here on some new screen shots of the menu system for which i really proud off and a actual gameplay shot from the ice world. please leave some comments and let me know your apinions and thoughts.

This is the new logo , very basic but hope you guys like it.
This is the main menu screen, i especially like the blue prints of your ship in the background, what are your thoughts. The blue glass pane sides in and out with each new menu looks really neat.
This is the world select screen and is swipeable to slide across the different worlds you can select.
There are eight levels per world and goinf to release with 4 worlds so 32 levels,as you can see in the above shot that this game has a 3 star system, more info to follow in the coming weeks. This is the Ice Level Level Select menu.
This last shot is off a boss Battle for an Ice Level. Each of the 3 pertruding guns shoots at the player and can be destoyed individualy before destroying the main center part.any way guys there you guys go, would really apretiate some honest feedback, as there is still time to change elements.

Your UI / menus are really looking great. I also like the modular enemy / boss you have pictured here. Looks promising :) Any early gameplay video?
Posted 9 months ago # -
Hi shogan thanks for the input, yes especially proud of the ui , looks really neat in action, yes I have modular bosses, I have 18 different parts which allows me to create infinite bosses thought that was the best way to go, also have different coloured parts as well, each one of the 32 levels will have a different boss at the end.
I only have a cheap looking video at the moment in the process of producing a professional looking one.will post as soon as I have it finished.Posted 8 months ago # -
can I just point out that in the non-ice levels the background texture is very similar to the ship. The ship IMHO should stand out visually more.
Posted 8 months ago # -
hi codemattic thanks for the input yes i agree with you its one of the things on my list of polishing when i get to that stage, what do you think of the menu system ?
Posted 8 months ago # -
Thanks codemattic thats the look my art designer and myself were going for ,a sort of star-trek stroke minority report type look, think we really have achieved it.

Any body else got any feedback ?

This looks great and I have to say your story has really inspired me. I have a love a games and have been wanting to write an iPhone game for the past 3 years. I have a background in digital animation and look forward to learning. I have just picked up a book on beginning Object C and then want to move on to learning iPhone game programing using Cocos2d.
I also have an idea for a slightly different cave shooter but I have to say you have inspired me to stop dreaming and make them a reality.
As for feedback I love the menus and the ships but I think your background might be slightly too realistic. I would either add details to the ships or have less detail in the background.

hi davsomme glad to hear your inspired, can i give you some advice, the same advice i was given when i started, its a recommended book list to learn from really.
start objective- c learning as a complete begineer from a book called.
Kochan - Programming in Objective-C 2.0 2nd Ed. (2009) (Pearson)
now dont worry i only read and learnt about 3 quarters of the chapters before i moved on but what was really good about this book is it had tests at the end of each chapter and a website to go to for all the answers and was a really good way to learn and put into practice (i spent 4 months on this book).
i then moved on to the following
Beginning iPhone 4 Development - Updated Version of 2009 - Exploring the iPhone SDK by Dave Mark
now i only worked up to about chapter 6 , as most was not relevent to games but was a great resource for views and controllers.
then last i came here only by fluke and thats when the fun starts.
now dont worry if you come acrosss something you dont quite get as theres always someone in the same boat with the answer, a couple of times i hit a brick wall but i had the nerve just to push through which led me here today making games.
well back to my game thanks for the advice i hear what your saying about the backgrounds but thats what i wanted a cartoony over real gives it a arty feel drawing on real backgrounds not everyones cup of tea but i think people will get it.
and good luck yourself

Its a dark time in the universe since humans found out they were not alone.
The Evil Robot Race The Badrobatans reared their ugly heads in the late 24th century.
Humans had just accomplished interstellar flight and were out exploring the universe.

This is where you step in.

Hi,
I think I am going to stick with Chopper Rescue for a little while, but release as often as I can with small changes and eventually levels if people keep downloading it. :)
Think it is looking OK now, so just continue to grow it.
Yes I also would like to say this forum is very helpful, and there is no way we could achieve this stuff in such a short time frame without cocoa2d.
Cheers
Shane
