Someone else posted about this book in the Network Play thread. I was having a look at the source code and one of the example games (Puyo) is using cocos2d 0.73! I hope Riq got/is getting a donation ;)

I hope riq got a big fat donation for this. And perhaps some credit to him too.

I checked out the Puyo example, which I like. I've been ignoring memory management way too much. It sheds light on where I can release memory. Thanks for the link.

My guess is that there's a ton more money in making a good app than there is in writing a good book. A big fat donation might be more than the authors make on the book. The publisher, however... :)

I dunno, with the sheer amount of iphone devs about, I recon the authors who got the early books out must of made a fortune! More than your average small app/game ; )
Would be interested in a quick review of this book if anyones got time.

Just a word of advice to anyone buying the ebook version: Apress ebooks are DRM-ed and therefore not supportable on the Sony Reader. I learned this the hard way with an earlier book.

*Don't buy this book!* (following is my opinionated review to underline what i just said)
Seriously, if you have at least a little programming background, you won't learn much from it, if anything at all. Unless you want to read about boring games like a port of a chess game, or a sexy chicks "game" and learn how to "optimize OpenGL" by reducing draw calls and compressing textures (oh, really?). Check the reviews on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/iPhone-Games-Projects-PJ-Cabrera/dp/1430219688/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1259535322&sr=8-1
The worst part of the book is the author who's saying that game design documents are the most important key to success. Makes you raise and eyebrow. If you know that this guy programmed Mega-Hits like Bikini Hunt, Backgammon and Apache Lander it makes you LOL and then some.
So stay away from this book, unless you like reading badly written blog posts on paper.
You get more from spending your money either on Learning Objective C on the Mac (also from Apress) or Xcode 3 Unleashed from Sams. Better get both if you're serious with iPhone programming and don't get along so well with either Objective C or Xcode.
