I'm thinking about possible strategories for a lite version. What about a full version limited to let's say 1 hour. All levels unocked during this period can be played, but you can't unlock new levels.
Isn't it a litle bit risky if all levels can be unlocked in 1 hour ? Or maybe one can fake the date of its iPhone or reinstall the game as if it was just downloaded ?
A time limited Lite version ?

I am pretty sure that this will not be allowed through review.

+1 to ob1. I would be surprised if Apple approved it.
Say your $FULL_GAME has 3 game play types. If your $LITE_GAME has the same menu options, but 2 are ghosted, you'll be rejected. The one hour of game time is kind of the same thing. Apple tends to frown on "bait and switch" tactics.
(I'm not implying you're doing that, but Apple will more than likely consider it as such.)

Well, the funny thing is that the Apple Guidelines basically say that ghosted is okay, but active and not working (like a popup "sorry, buy full") is not okay.
But I believe that in pratice even ghosted will not pass review.

Can somebody give me some reference about that ghosted menus / popups in lite versions? I tried finding it on Apple without success. What I did in my next free release (not even submitted yet) is putting little text under one of the menus saying "payed version only" but I did make alert, when that menu item is clicked, explaining what's else in payed version and offering "continue" and "buy full version" as choices... But I can't risk waiting 3 weeks to find out that's not ok with Apple...
Thanks

I, unfortunately, speak from experience. Bullet Frenzy Lite was rejected for exactly this reason.

Oh I didn't know this, so I can forget this idea. Thx a lot for the feedback, this will save me some rejections.

@crmagicxxx :
What you're doing is almost the same as having greyed out menu items. Your update will definitely be rejected. If you want some reference, you can try doing a search on "upsell" in the Apple official forums.Posted 2 years ago # -
Uh, I'll see what I can dig on Apple about this.
For me it's perfectly logical to tease the potential buyer by showing him all the menus there will be in full version. People just don't like to read too much text, so it's better to show them all possible menus than to write that somewhere...
For example I have one Lite app where I wrote all text about limitations of Lite Version on App Store and in game also, but got bad review from one person who said he likes it but it would be better if there are more songs/samples. Like, he doesn't know if full version is better, and so on. And in that actual app he has explanation what is in full version. With that logic it would be better if I put all the samples/songs in lite version and if they choose it then to tell them to pay for it :)

I have had a 4-star review on a lite version from a user saying he would have given 5 stars if there had been a button to buy the full version. Sometimes, Apple's rules go against the user's experience. But logical or not, we have to follow them or our apps get rejected. So that's the bottom line.

Hey, Just to throw in my $.02, The remember the milk app has a "time limit". They have a 30 day trial, wanting you to buy the full version, or full account from there site. Doesn't quite fit, the game area, but its something.

That link is interesting:

I was pretty sure you could at least have a link to the full version since many Lite apps have that.

Interesting link,
I've just downloaded 3 lite versions recently approved by Apple and 100% of them had a link to the full version. For one of them it was a "full version" button on start screen and for the 2 others a "more games" button.
So I think these are widely accepted by Apple.

My lite version was rejected because I had a "buy" button (by "buy", I mean the word "buy" was written on the button). So I ended up putting a "more games" button which was accepted. It was back in December.

And I just read two minutes ago on another forum that a "buy" button is the way to go...
Apple won't cease to amaze me...
