I think that the average is around 19 days at the moment. I didn't check recently however.

a couple of days ago: "95% are aproved in 2 weeks"
Mine was approved on saturday after being 13-14 days in reviewPosted 2 years ago # -
Interesting... Where did you get that number ob1? So do they only approve during normal business hours?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Huuu I am not sure, I think it was from one of those statistics company blogs, like flurry or pinch.

Ok I found it... Apple has it listed in the dev center.
"Based on the current volume of app submissions, 95% of applications are being approved within 14 days.

How about updates? I haven't worked on any apps in a few months, but they always used to take about the same amount of time as the initial review. Is that still true? Seems really terrible to have a 2 week turn-around time for fixes. A small bug or performance problem could totally kill your applications reputation.

In those cases you can try to ask for an expedite review at appreview@apple.com. It works sometimes.
Posted 2 years ago # -
I didn't know they considered requests for that. Thanks for info!

@valleyman86, it also depends on the app. Does your game has specific features like user generated levels, online chat ?

I have a lite version of my game in review for 24 days now
Posted 2 years ago # -
"for 24 days now" thats bordering on criminal. Did they say there was any kind of review issue?
Posted 2 years ago # -
Well they rejected it (due to vibration features in iTouch) after exactly 14 days. I fixed it and re-uploaded it. Seriously 2 lines of code and now I probably have to wait another 14 days. So not cool. My game does have the ability to create levels though so I don't know what else could go wrong.

They may be freaked over the Yelp easter egg that they missed.

@codemattic
Nope, I never got a delayed email reply, I rang ADC and they asked me that question, I then sent various emails, the only one I got a reply to was when I titled it 'Urgent Fix required' they replied:"Thank you for your expedited review request. We are in the process of reviewing your critical update to Ballz! - Pro Lite and will keep you posted to its status. "
Obviously a canned response as it isn't even on the App store!
I just got a reply to another email I sent 10 days ago:
"Thank you for your status request for Ballz! - Pro Lite. We are currently investigating the status of this application and will get back to you shortly. Thank you for your patience. "
I have 2 updates to 2 other apps that are now 15 days in also.
I wonder if I've pissed them off!...LOL

Hey guys,
This site tries to estimate the current delay you'll face when you submit your app for approval: http://148apps.biz/app-store-metrics/?mpage=approval
Keep in mind that the features in your game will alter the time (e.g. do you have blood and guts and they're trying to figure out whether it pushes any of their boundaries, multiplayer/online functionality, different features in different devices, etc...). You know the drill, anything that could possibly get their noses out of joint probably will.

Hi,
I´ve submitted my first app on August, the 3rd. It´s still in review - that´s almost four weeks now. Has anybody else experienced such long waiting periods? It´s a very simple app (tool, no game). I was about to ask the apple app review team if there are any problems with my app but I think that wouldn´t help anyway, would it?
Is a long wainting period a good or a bad sign? (Are apps that are rejected usually rejected quicker? :o) )
Thanks,
MarcoPosted 2 years ago # -
4 weeks without any feedback is amazing. Is there something special in your app ? Requests to online server ?

I emailed apple review last week after our app has been in 'extended review' for over 3 weeks now. They got back to me the same day, saying their still looking into it :-/
I'd definitely email/phone to ask, especially if they haven't warned you it needs extra review time. If your polite, it shouldn't hurt ; ) At worst you'll get a standard template response, but hopefully they'll give you a bit more info.

Hi,
no, there is really nothing special.
I cannot image that my app simply has been "forgotten". Do you think I should maybe ask by email what´s going on?
thanks,
MarcoEDIT: PhilM - we posted at about the same time. Okay, I will write them an email... ;o)

@PhilM I don't think it's possible to phone the app review team. I talked to a developer support guy who said that their email address is the only way to get to them so they don't get flooded with calls.
I've never got a reply from any email sent to that email address. :( It's a very frustrating system to be sure.

When I updated Mini Taxi, since it was an important fix for gameplay, I sent the app review team a brief email explaining what I'd changed and that content and functionality had remained completely the same.
This was on the day after I submitted the update.
3 days after I got a reply letting me know that it was under review and they would keep me informed, looked like your average template response.
Day after, email saying they were going to make a one-time exception and push the review forward.
So on day 5 it was approved and went live on the App Store.
Morale of the story here is, I guess, if you're polite and explain reasonably what's going on, chances are you'll get a reply and perhaps even a positive outcome.
Then again, I was probably very lucky and someone in a very good mood read my email that day ;)
cheers!Posted 2 years ago # -
@Stormtap: hmm, perhaps it is only email contact. I thought I'd read somewhere that some people had a little luck with phoning the usual dev contact line. But that would have been a while ago now, so perhaps with so many iPhone dev's these days, thats no longer an option?
I wonder if there's a difference in response times between individual & company dev accounts? I wouldn't have thought so, but it does seem strange how some don't get any response, or a very delayed one. Although wording & tone of the emails could perhaps effect it as well.
My contact with Apple has been via company registrations, and they've been pretty quick to respond, usually within 12 hours, even if some of the messages are fairly generic, and we're still waiting for our (hopeful) app approval!

"I thought I'd read somewhere that some people had a little luck with phoning the usual dev contact line."
Ive heard the same thing.
From:
http://developer.apple.com/contact/phone.html
United States (English) (408) 974 4897 or (800) 633 2152
there is also contacts for other countries at that web address. Good luck!

For more data points. Sub Hunt was approved(initial version) in 16 days. The update+lite version(submitted on the same day) took almost the same time. I had a small correction to make on both pertaining to having text in the app description that mentioned the price(it was in a review that I had pasted that said something about 99 cents). This change since it did not affect the binary evidently did not restart my review que as the game was approved a few days after I corrected that. On an aside I got confirmations of my fix for the full update on sat and the lite on Sunday so at least the people manning the text check work on the weekends.

Ok I got Ballz - Pro Lite version rejected. For having the word Bejeweled in my Keywords....they rejected the whole binary and said I had to resubmit.
Thank you for submitting Ballz! - Pro Lite to the App Store. We've reviewed Ballz! - Pro Lite and determined that we cannot post this version of your iPhone application to the App Store at this time because of inappropriate 'Keywords' used to identify your application. We will not post applications that reference other applications in their search criteria. It would be appropriate to remove "bejewelled".
Please visit iTunes Connect, Manage Applications to remove the inappropriate 'Keywords', and resubmit your binary for review.

Apparently this is the new thing for rejections....if you mention another game in your keywords it gets rejected
