    It´s fun times. A friend, Guy Lima Jr., and I are currently polishing up the last bits and pieces of a game called Continuity 2 for iOS. The game will play on iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad and will be released in the coming months.

    Here´s a video demonstrating the concept and the games controls:

    Continuiy 2 is a sequel to a Flash game developed by me, Guy and two others (Elias Holmlid and Dmitry Kurteanu) in 2009/2010. We received the IGF Best Student Game award and Indiecade Gameplay Innovation award for that project and a lot of good feedback. We´re truly grateful for that. Try it out at http://www.continuitygame.com/playcontinuity.html

    We had considered iOS for the original Continuity, but ulimately decided on Flash. Finalizing Continuity 1 we were pretty excited to see what we could do with the concept when taking it to a handheld touch device. We decided to start from scratch and do a sequel rather than a port.

    Making that happen we developed a level editor in Action Script and used cocos2d and box2d to build the game on. Thanks a lot to the cocos2d community for the support! We´d love to hear your feedback.

    We´ll post more details, screenshots and videos as we approach release.

    Here's a video showing Continuity 2 running on the iPad. It demonstrates the achievement system which is one of the new things with the iOS version.

    I've seen this game in a science project sometime last year, is that possible ? Flash version if my memory serves me right. It won stuff and people were really impressed with the concept.

    This is definitely a title I am looking forward to be checking out.

    Not sure about the "coins" though. I would like to think it of a "future / machine / prison" world, where I gathered something else than coins. Maybe a different type of key, and when I had more than xx keys, I could lock myself into a bonus level.
    Come on. Coins you will get after release, but keep them out of the game.

    Generally I think this achievement thingie has been pushed to the limit. I tried a game, that earned me an achievement, even if I put the game down, and let it finish the level by itself. That aint worth a thing, and while I think it is okay that I should explore the levels, the coins really dont add to dragging me into the world. On the contrary.

    @QcMat:

    Do you recall which science project? I don't recall any from last year, but this year a couple of german researchers will use it as a part of cognitive training for schizophrenic patients. Let's just hope they won't keep us responsible in case of unexpected results.

    @Birkemose:

    I can definitely agree that there's been an over-emphasis on achievements as of late. Those random achivements from some Xbox 360 games are pretty funny. In Continuity 2, we've tried to keep focus on the core concept and the other new features that we haven't demonstrated yet. The idea with the coins is that they should serve as an added layer, something that you could, optionally, explore after completing the levels in the normal fashion.

    Very cool gameplay - great job! I'm definitely going to pick this one up.

    Personally, I love achievements, since it gives a little extra flavor for replayability, as long as the achievements aren't just "you played it, you get an achievement!". Time runs are a personal favorite achievement of mine.

    I will say coins still makes me think too much of Mario, but I suppose it's better than the "star" thing that Angry Birds and Cut The Rope have made omnipresent in iOS gaming.

    I saw the game on http://continuitygame.com/playcontinuity.html

    But I'm pretty sure I saw a website where it won a prize or at least got featured really good for being very innovator.

    Im jealous that I didn't think of such an ingenious and unique idea. Seriously looks great, simplistic, fun and original for sure I'll be buying day one.

    Hell yes, the original flash game is one of the only games I actually teach my students to play! This is the BEST fit for the iPhone platform. Awesome news, wish you all the best and congrats on your success so far.

    Is this one going to be harder than the original?

    @beyondtool

    Thanks! We actually have yet to decide the final set of levels to include but roughly Id say it will be about the same. Having been developing the game for a while its pretty easy to loose the reference of whats hard and not though. Continuity 2 will contain all new levels so the difficulty will be different in that sense too I guess.

    Cool, some of the later levels in Continuity 1 were mind benders, I don't know how you guys thought them up!

    I confused.

    Continuity is an app "Continuity is the on set companion for any Script Supervisor. It was designed to help you generate a lined script on location." released by That One Kid (seller: Andrew Cefalo)

    Continuity 2 is a game, and look like from different developer.

    Q1: Continuity and Continuity 2 are from 2 different developers ?

    Q2: If Q1 is YES, how come Apple let that happen ? If Apple do so, an asshole will release Angry Birds 2 immediately.

    @letmeknow

    Apple can't police every name to make sure it never gets used in differenet ways, you could release Angry Birdz tomorrow, and Angry Birds 3000 the day after.

    Choosing an App name does not grant you the rights to claim all future names. It is at Apples discretion wether they want to force a name change.

    It is called Continuity 2 because they originally made a Flash game called Continuity and now simply want to bring out an update and release it on different devices.

    @letmeknow,

    Using again the example of Angry Birds, don't forget the original was "developed"/"released" by Clickgamer.com AKA Chillingo and now, Rovio is releasing the other Angry Birds (Rio, seasons, etc)

    @jsantos98: it's not true, you just don't understand the differences between publisher and developer.

    @varedis: I don't think anyone could do that, try and you will receive a fax from their lawyers. Don't step on those millionaire's feet.

    @varedis: you also mention about the old Continuity on PC, I already thought about that.
    Suppose you make a game name ABCDEF on PS2, and I make a different game named ABCDEF on XBox, no problem.
    One day, you migrate your game to XBox platform, you can't use that name because I own that name on Xbox platform, I don't care how or when you make it, you must change the name on Xbox or I will sue you because you're hurting my titlte, my sales on Xbox.

    The same thing is happenning here.

    ----------------
    Actually, if that happen, App Store will become a mess. Suddenly people will have Tiny Wing 2 from China or Feed Me Oil 2 developed by one who know where? And maybe I will release Continuity 4 in the next 2 months (if continuity 2 happen to be successful) - I don't care if 3 is released or not.

    If there were such incident, I don't know what will happen to other well-known apps, but I know the most vulnerable title is Continuity itself. No-one can stop anyone from abusing this title anymore.

    @letmeknow,

    Please, note that I mention Developed and released with quotes...
    I was being ironic ;)

    Although they are publishers, for the Apple point of view, they are the ones that released the game, they are the ones that receive the payments, etc.
    It's up to Chillingo to give Rovio the negotiated share of the profit.

    @jsantos98: you just don't understand the cases.

    Rovio asked Chillingo to publish AB.
    Rovio release AB R.

    Mr. A release C
    Mr. B release C 2.

    They are too much different.

    Yes, I understand the cases and agree completely with you!

    I was just showing an example where Apple allowed different developer accounts to release apps with very similar names.

    However, I honestly (unfortunately) believe that Apple will not be checking that issue. It's up to the trademark owners (if any) to stand for their rights.

    Again, I don't agree with that, but I think it is what will happen...
