I wrote an iPad app for New Year's Eve, so that people could just pick the music they wanted to hear. Based on the dance party in my living room that night, it worked quite well, so I polished it up and released it.

I'm using cocos2d and box2d for physics. The music comes from the built-in iPod library, so basically, it's a more fun, intuitive interface to the iPod.

I took ENYPRMKN3YJL.

It looks like a really cool app and I'll definitly try it on my next Party (next weekend, I can propably give you more feedback by then).

From the few minutes playing around with it I got two suggestions:

1. I don't know if it's possible and how much work it would be, but I got lots of music on my iPad and also some stuff from comedians etc. and thus the list of songs gets really long and confusing and it's hard to find the music I actually want in their. I think it would be much easier if I could choose between my playlists.

2. I was a little confused in the beginning what to do and how it works, but the help cleared my confusion. So I would suggest displaying the help on the first start of the app, so that the people know right from the beginning what to do and how it works.

Other than that: Great App ;)

@Creativ - True, it works best if you just sync music to the iPad. I'm guessing that most people have a larger music collection than can fit on their iPad - and a lot of junk if it's like my library - so a preliminary selection of what tracks to include is required. Then during the party people can pick what they want to hear. I might add more usage tips in the help. Thanks for the comment!

@ruben301 - There's a basic API to access the iPod library. Check out: MPMusicPlayerController, MPMediaItem, etc.

To any other downloaders, I've love to hear how it works in a real party situation. I have a lot of ideas to how to make things more fun, and stories from real situations can help prioritize what features to build.

One (random) development tip: There is really no excuse not to beta test anymore. In the past, walking normal people (non-developers) through the AdHoc install process was so painful, I gave up. But I recently "discovered" that iOS 4.x supports over-the-air beta installs. You just send a URL and people can download and install the app. (Getting the UDID is still a bit annoying.) This tool makes the process easy:

Nice advise on the Beta-Testing tips, I'm very pro testing. My tip for getting UDID's more successfully is telling people to take a screenshot and send it. Save them the 40 digit exercise or you're making their first user experience shitier before the app is even loaded :D
