I tried first version of Interstellar force.
I prefer tilt. All devices has it, and I dont have to look at my big ugly thumb when I play. So I like tilt, and have only tested the game so far, using tilt.
Let's take the bad things first :)
I like automatic calibration, but I struggled a few times with calibration that seemed slightly off. Maybe I am unaware of when the game calibrates, because at times I felt like had to tip the phone slightly up or down to centre my spacecraft. Also, moving back and forth seems a bit sluggish. So far it doesn't seem important, as for gameplay, but I still would like it respond a bit faster.
Apart from that, tilt works great.
So I would like a sensitivity adjustment, and I would also like a volume adjustment. The music and the FX are good. That surprised me a bit, because normally I tend to get a bad headache from these things. Not this time, and shows me, that there is bad bip-bip sounds, but there are also good bip-bip sounds. These are good bip-bip sounds, but they are still a bit to loud for me.
And I love Betty :)
Wanted to implement that myself, but thought, that without any other voiceovers, it would feel detached. You showed me that it isn't. Give her a hug when you see her.
The first impressions when I launch the game, is kewl. The menu is SO damn spot on, from the animation to the choice in font. Really spot on with respect to the game style. I also think the transitions, the graphics, and ( like I said ) the music, is very well chosen. It all brings me into this nice archace-side-scrolling-shooting-frenzy. And the game is unforgiving in that respect. BAM - shields at - BAM - BAM - shields at - dead!
But that is the nature of it. This is no puzzle. This is kill or be killed.
My 10y daughter picked it up, and played it on several occasions. She liked it.
It is fun watching kids browsing the game apps installed. ATM they play PvZ most of the time, but they then browse through what they like, and play that for anything from 30 secs, to half an hour. Your distinct bip-bip, the muh's of CT, and a few more, is what I hear apart from those growling zombies :)
But you are walking on a path, walked by many, and you could argue: Why buy yours over any of the other side-scrolling-frenzy-shoot-em-up?
In that respect I think you need a little bit more. Maybe the 8 pixel graphics. I don't know.
Still a great game, and I am pretty sure, that if I deleted it ( god forbid ), my daughter would ask: "Where is that game where I have to shoot those robots with the legs?"
EDIT:
After rereading the thread, I realized that there might be a tilt bug in 1.0. If that is the one I encountered, please disregard my grumpiness on that point.
