To keep in line of not having multiple threads and the almost certain flow of feedback for Zwoptex 1.5 I'm going to dedicate this thread to the updates.

Today I've released Zwoptex 1.5a1 ( alpha 1 ) of which includes many requested features such as extruding, padding, pixel formats, dithering, interface updates combining the list and graphical view, etc.. You can read the full details and release notes on the blog.

While very stable Zwoptex 1.5a1 is in alpha stage because of deprecation of the .zss format. Migration support will be added but isn't just yet available.

If you have any feedback, comments, etc.. please feel free to leave them here, the blog, or PM me as I'd love to see what people think of the latest version.

Thanks Robert, this is awesome! Thanks for the major feature upgrades. Being able to save sprites back out of a Zwoptex file is a great addition. :)

I downloaded the Alpha and it doesn't seem to do anything. When I choose New it doesn't do anything.

I'm also experiencing the same problem as cublah. I'm on a 32bit machine running 10.6.4 if that helps.

Is Zwoptex crashing or just nothing happening when you do new? If so could you perhaps open Console.app ( in utilities folder ) and see if anything happens?

It should work 32/64bit regardless and 10.6.4 should also be fine though I can't be 100% certain

@Robert - no crashing, just no window appears when clicking new. I'll pm you what shows up in the console.

Hey guys you can download it again ( same url make sure you clear web browser cache ) and it should work. It was an issue with Xcode building the Core Data models improperly. Let me know if it doesn't work!

Just pushed up Alpha 2. It enables Texture Formats ( PVR, RGBA ) and Texture Compression ( CCZ ).

Thanks Rob! For individual sprite dithering, do we need to use version "3" in the metadata? i.e. use the latest cocos2d version? I usually set my version in the metadata to 1 in order to use it with a current project in cocos2d 0.99.4.

Hi Shogan,

I updated to "3" for the cocos2d format just to ensure support with aliases for now. I'll need to do some testing to see what is the minimum version that will still work.

You can always duplicate the template in the preferences and use a custom format if you need any changes to it.

@SDKTutor This is one of the very few Development tools for cocos2d I consider worth spending money on, and this is from someone who generally just prefers rolling his own. Bought it the day it went commercial and haven't regretted it since.

Zwoptex 1.5 Alpha 4 just released includes scaling for publish targets so you can now finally generate sd/hd from a single Zwoptex document.

After a couple of test it seems to work really nice.
The publish settings is a killer feature, congrats :)

I'm using v.1.5 as my primary tool for atlas generation, so I'll use it quite intensivelly for the next couple of weeks. I'll let you know if some bug arise.

@Robert: Is the any way to put in a feature request to import old ZSS files? I have a bunch of spritesheets created in the old Zwoptex and it would be nice to be able to convert them over to the new format.

Edit: Just saw you have that listed as an upcoming feature. Looking forward to it.

There will be document migration much like Xcode currently does when it has an out of date document ( "Would you like to upgrade a copy?" ) that will work on all existing .zss and .zssxml files.

Once this feature is implemented Zwoptex will go into beta and be available via the automatic updater on the "Beta" option in the preferences.

Zwoptex 1.5 is now beta

Highlights:

.zss and .zssxml files can be opened and migrated to .zwd documents
Fixed lots of bugs in 1.5
Zwoptex is now shareware. It does not require a license to use it but does have some delays in aliasing, laying out, and publishing. Read the blog post for more details.

I used Zwoptex for my newly released game Hero of Africa and couldn't express how much time it saved me. All works perfectly.
