Random thought as I find myself obsessed with listening to Tiesto when I program, curious what others listen to.
What do you listen to while programming?

I listen to a lot of instrumental stuff. Music with words distracts me when I program.
I really like the Hearts of Space program. It's not free but has a 30 year archive of hour-long instrumental programs with all types of world music.
I have no affiliation with the site.
When I'm not listening to HoS, I'm probably listening to Underworld.

My nearly 2 years old son, non stop (I work from home), it's lovely, don't take me wrong, but some times...
And the bloody fridge of my neighbor upstairs.
And eventually, some music on my headphones to concentrate, anything. Even bought one of those noise canceling headphones, so just hearing a shissssssssss at the moment.

i can listen to anything while programming.
now while doing math homework, it need to be songs without words, instrumental versions of songs are perfect.

I like peace and quiet mostly. If I listen to anything with lyrics I sometimes type bits of those into xcode without realising, and with instrumental stuff I find by brain goes of on a tangent analysing the song structure rather than just listening to it :-P

it's actually a small old fridge, but this 100 year old victorian houses are all wood, and the vibration of the fridge goes down from the ceiling and walls... it drives me mad, but I'm in conversation with them to do something (like kill them or buy a new bloody fridge myself!!!)

I listen to the voices in side my head telling me what to do.. When I'm not doing that, I listen to techno / trance.

sometimes NIN, Delerium, Rammstein, but normally some great trance like oceanlab or whatever random song i've found.. a lot of times new pop stuff, even if it's bad, since i won't be listening to the lyrics much :)

If I
- need concentration -> nothing or classical music
- need to do "bureaucratic" stuff -> radio. I can listen to any kind of genre: techno, pop, latin, rock, etc...Posted 1 year ago # -
If I'm solving harder problems or coding something more complex I wont listen to anything. If I'm doing some monotonous repetitive code that requires little thought I'll usually listen to music (rock).

I usually put live.twit.tv at the background (it's a tech podcasting network).
When I really need to concentrate I just phase-out the audio in my head, and when I come out of this self-made coma, I realize the show is over and they already started the next one :)
Sometimes I put some music, but rarely... since I found that I get sucked into the music and just sit in front of the keyboard and listen to the music.

I like listening to songs by The Advantage who do rock covers of classic NES themes like zelda, metroid, mario, megaman, and more. The music is familiar and no lyrics so it's not distracting, and it's from my favorite games of all time which is inspiring :)

Hello people.
I usually enter here: http://www.filtermusic.net. Then I play an online radio. I like the trance channel called "Discover Trance". Also I listen to video game soundtracks using Youtube playlists. There are good video game remixes here too: http://ocremix.org/
See you!

I just think big tits., No music. The better my game the more tits I get to play with. :)
I did download this app the other day though about music, but was still too focused on the core objective!

However if I need to get some serious work done, then nothing.

It's usually dubstep, drum & bass, jungle or eurodance. The vibe I get from it helps me concentrate, so it doesn't really matter whether it's a difficult piece of code or not.
