Personally I don't like the hard sell.
Both products are interesting, and I own a license for both.
Zwoptex's software auto-update feature is great, and TexturePacker's color dithering is useful to me.
Feature chart TexturePacker vs Zwoptex

As I said before: The comparison chart was ment as help for customers of both tools to make the decision between the products simpler. And Robert did not complain about it. He could also remove it if he wants to... its on a wiki page everybody can edit.
In the end the community wins with both tools. TexturePacker forces Robert to start coding again. See his blog http://zwopple.com/ - He apoligizes for not updating this product.
I am a customer of Zwoptex too. But as the project I am currently working on became bigger and my request to Robert to add scaling of sprite sheets on the fly the answer was that he'll wait until highres is settled. This is when I decided to develop TP...
Now we have a situation where the community has big benefits of both apps:
1) Zwoptex users will get updates again
2) I have to update TexturePacker tooYou can track the progress on the wiki page and decide which tool fits your needs best.
Another gain for the community is that the products are much cheaper now. Zwoptex is at 60% of the price it was before TexturePackerPro was released.
In the long term it will not matter which product you choose. Robert is a good programmer and he'll be able to add functions TexturePacker has and I can add functions Zwoptex has... so you should get the product which fits your needs best at the moment.
Instead of thinking the chart is evil hard sell I would see it as a todo list for Robert and me. By the way when I started the chart it was TexturePacker who had less "YES" and I worked hard to get the features running.
What if Robert adds some new features I don't have with his update? Will I complain about it? No. I'll simply add them (as my current 2.0.2 prerelease has auto-update functionality using sparkle framework...) to keep my customers satisfied.

Why don't you just combine your forces ? ;)

@andreas: as I said: Don't announce your product in more than 1 thread.
If a user asks something particular about your tool, feel free to answer it. But if he is not asking about your product, don't spam him.You have made a product, and you have contributed with some source code, and I thank you for that, but I believe that doesn't give you more privileges.
I hope you can follow these simple rules, like Robert and everybody else in this forum is doing. If you can't do it, feel free to leave. Thanks.

I think a maximum of one product update announcement per week is sufficient. It seems ok to help people with your stuff if they ask here, but keep in mind this is the cocos2d forums and not the XYZ product support area.

I feel that cocos2d is very dependent on the external tools. Be it Zwoptex or TexturePacker. This dependency can be seen in some hooks inside cocos2d code for Zwoptex which used to be a free tool (still flash version is). It would be great if some things which those tools provide could be done programmatically by cocos2d API in at least some basic form.
Because of the cocos2d dependence on the Zwoptex/TP forum user will ask related questions.
If Robert or Andreas answer to such cocos2d related question we all can only benefit. I agree that such answer should not be used for self promotion. But better to have an answer from the expert than no answer at all. - Just my personal and subjective opinion.Posted 1 year ago # -
@andreas - I think your product looks great, and I'll definitely be buying it soon... and I personally don't like hard sells either, but I definitely want to hear about any new features, etc, of TexturePacker, so i think if you keep your posts for it in one thread, you'll be able to do fine with it... just add new features frequently so you can post about them ;-)
kudos on the great tool!

@CJ Thank you for clarification on this issue.

@Robert: Sorry - I did not want to tell things that are not true.
He [Robert] apoligizes for not updating this product.
It was my mistake to misunderstand the word "abundance" - I am no native english speaker and thought the word was related to "abandon"...
That said I would suggest we let this thread simply die....

Did the comparison chart get removed? Wiki says "This topic does not exist yet."
I think comparison chart is great idea, and especially if authors of both software are ok with it!
Thanks

I believe the comparison chart was removed because it makes the assumption there are only 2 "players" in the market (there are many more players in the market now), it is essentially marketing for both (commercial) products, and so it doesn't actually make sense as part of the cocos2D ecosystem. If you want to know what features they have, visit their web sites and evaluate the products yourself. (Frankly, a lot of devs have bought them both, for various reasons.)

Yes, I think they both have good features and are valuable in different situations. Thanks.
