No, I don't think the springiness is a limitation of the technique. I think they probably use specific easing functions for the interpolation between morph targets to give it that energetic bounce. Its probably likely you can use any easing interpolation technique you like, and specify an ease per target. I'm just guessing tho, as I have not implemented something like this.

The animations looks very "springy". While I'm sure it was a wanted effect for the game, I fear it's a general limitation of the "mesh animation"+morph technique. Could it be true?

Isn't TDAnimEngine another technique - not related to morph target animation which DreamZoo seems to use. Doesn't DreamZoo use morph target animation by rendering textured polygons (interpolation between polygon keyframes)?

Is is possible to render textured polygons in Cocos2D?

@walzer: yes, it is a good idea. The open source project that I mentioned earlier is a good candidate.

riq, how about supporting mesh compression in cocos2d officially? It looks a huge improvement to 2d games.

cocos2d doesn't have a mesh animation class. We developed our own.
There is open source project that already does that in case you need it:

Dream Zoo

Download (free):
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dream-zoo/id468606296?mt=8

I have been slightly involved in the development of this game, but I know that technically it is using interesting things like:
- cocos2d v2.0 (shaders)
- Using Mesh animations
- The mesh animations are compressed using a very interesting technique described here: http://code.zynga.com/2011/11/mesh-compression-in-dream-zoo/
- It is generating the textures in runtime
