Look, I'll be honest - I have no idea what your game is about after watching that trailer. I know it's a rhythm game, but that's about it. I saw some dots around the edges of the screen that kept disappearing...do you tap them, or tilt the phone or what? Could be really fun, but it didn't really explain why.

This is the 3rd version of this game. It's had many improvements:

	• Gave it a better name, "Ultrinium".
• Paid a graphic artist to redo the graphics. No more "programmer art"!
• An Austin-based band is releasing their CD this month. I managed to snag one of the singles from the CD as the soundtrack. The CD is awesome; great background music for coding!

Check it out for the music alone! The band is called They Look Like Good Strong Hands. The closest I can come to a similarity would be Explosions in the Sky.

Youtube trailer, with a different track from the album:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cNopmtFJkc

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ultrinium/id313811176?mt=8

Programming-wise, notes of interest:
- I took some advice and made a level importer from Inkscape. Designing in Inkscape rather than paper sped up making levels and allowed me to do some larger ones.
- Previously, the terrain had very hard edges. I wrote some Lua to generate random fractal hills, of multiple heights, fading out to the distance. You can make it out in the screenshots, and that helped smooth the look out a lot. It also made the game harder to play by narrowing corridors :)
- Cocos2d has matured into a really great framework for Obj-C games!

I haven't played the game yet so I don't know if the planks/strings move but one things you may be able to do is have a timer start counting once the character has stopped moving. I would say give the player maybe 10 seconds to try and determine if the player is in fact stuck or if they are just trying to plan their next move. There's a game called "Gravity Lab" that kinda does the same thing so that after you fire the character and he potentially can get stuck in some levels a countdown timer appears and as long as the character isn't moving it keeps going down until it reaches 0 which then called the game over screen.

The way you used to detect mute was to check the audio route. It would be blank if the mute switch was on and headphones weren't plugged in.
According to Apple, that was actually a bug, which they "fixed" in iOS 5. Officially, there isn't supposed to be a way to detect the mute switch.

Hi All,

I'd like to introduce you all to my latest cocos2d based game now on the App Store, <stong>The B.E.A.T. The B.E.A.T. differs from other games in the genre because it allows you to play a rhythm game to the music in your own library rather than pre-packaged song.

From a developers stand point, coordinating real time DSP into an iphone app was a fun and interesting challenge but one that allows for a great variety of game play. cocos2d made creating the game on top of that technology one of the easier parts of The B.E.A.T.'s development!

Here is a game play video to show you the feel of the game, screenshots really don't do it justice!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LurQJAivqVE

More details can be found our webstite The B.E.A.T.

Or you can get it directly at @ The B.E.A.T. in the App Store

Thanks go out to riq and the cocos2d team for maintaining a great library!
Also thanks to fellow cocos2d devs QcMat and ubert for listening to me rant in IRC about the various issues that came up during development :)

Thanks, I want this game to not only be fun, but to also make people laugh. I'm glad it worked! I can't wait for people to play Trippin' Balls. The world isn't finished yet, but I hope everyone has as much playing it as I am making it.

:)
thank you (please do rate the app,and leave a review)
i could add the button linking to level select screen,
but then,if u implement so many options u ultimately end up making a mess,
if i add a "back to level select" instead of "back to main menu"
some1 else will be unhappy as he/she would like a direct link to main menu,
and if i add both of them,id end up cluttering the menu...its wise to keep the screen real-estate as clean as possible and also leave room for some features that may get added down the road...

Hello. Looks good. Besides explaining the game rules, a live gameplay video will help your marketing and encourage some people to buy the app, so try it out. Use another iPhone to record the video, or Screenflick, for example.
